Yes, Dennis B. mentioned this to me. Note that they don't define this. How would YOU define "a large number of sub-folders"? It can take a minute or two just to SEE that a folder contains 5 or 6 folders. I'd like to hear their definition of what a typical scenario is and how long it should take.

According to Rebit Support: "Currently, there is a slow behavior with the product when performing an operation with a large number of sub-folders. We hope to address this in a software update. I’m not sure when that might happen, though." Most likely this may the behaviour exhibited here... At least they are willing to extract the data for you at no cost (only time)... Cheers, Martin

They have offered to pay to express my drive to them, so they could extract the data and put it on another drive that they'll give me. I may take them up on that, but not yet. I tried the Browse process on my wife's computer, where I'd set up another Rebit external drive. We saw the same very very slow behavior there as well (hers is a quad-core AMD machine). So it's not something unique to my machine or my external drive.

Right now I'm trying to just drag my account folder (the folder with my Desktop and Documents folders) to my desktop. I started that before my previous note to you. About 3 hours ago. It's still "Calculating the time...". It's looking like I'm going to have to wipe out my RAID, restore to a single disk, copy that onto an external drive, and then re-institute the RAID and reinstall Windows. Again. In order to get to my "backed up" files. Yes, I can get back single files from the backup. And folders that aren't too big, apparently. I managed one that was nearly a half gigabyte, but that took 20 or 30 minutes. The folder I'm trying to get back now is under 10 gigs, I think. Hours for that? Is this 1985?

Hi David There may be something else wrong... even though I acknowledge that Rebit is almighty slow... I have passed your findings to the Rebit team and they'll get back to you. Their support is pretty good as I went through a catastrophic SSD failure last month and Rebit was the only way to bring everything back up within a few hours. So it does work...
I recently had a HD disaster, after having gotten out of my previous twice-a-week Retrospect backup regimen. Lost a bunch. My tech guy where I took my drive to see if he could recover the data recommended Rebit. I got it, installed it with a 1TB USB drive, and backed up my new installation of Win7 64bit. I decided to set up a RAID1 mirror with 2 1TB drives. I've got Win7 reinstalled, and am now trying to restore files and folders from my Rebit backup. It is mind-bogglingly SLOW. When you try to copy a folder from the Rebit backup, Windows explorer sits there for ages (seriously, it might be 10, 20, 30 minutes or more), "Calculating the time required to copy the files". And then it's very slow actually copying. This is with a ASUS P6T mobo & Intel i7 cpu. I'm really pissed right now. At this rate it will take weeks to get my files back.
