SCOOP ! Reserve demerit points low and need some assistance?

Look no further than the Vengeance 2 and the TMG GRL 300 Series radar/laser detectors that we are about to review courtesy of www.radars.com.au.

Already reputed as being a very high end radar/laser detector, and in fact, the only one designed with specific enhancements for Australia, the offer to review the Vengence2 has got us pretty excited.  But imagine how “spun out” we were when we were also offered the latest and greatest GPS based, TMG GRL series 309. This is one of the most innovative and sophisticated road safety monitoring systems in the world today and it is in the final testing adjustment phase for Australia as this goes to print.

Hot on the heels of announcing their upcoming Popbox, the makers of the popular Popcorn Hour line of media players have announced the latest iteration of their plays everything Network Media Tank.

The A-200 looks to be a physical successor of the A-100/110 and judging by the specs, a logical younger brother of the recently reviewed Popcorn Hour C-200.

While we hope to have both units in for a full review shortly, you can get an information fix now - and even pre-order a unit as of the 18th of January - if you head on over to the Popcorn Hour website.

Promise ZERO NS2600
We've written about the upcoming ZERO before so it's not exactly a state secret anymore... But there have been some further developments...

What's it all about? Promise Technology, purveyors of all good things pertaining to NAS and storage solutions, recognized that some people (most people??) just don't get this whole configuration business when it comes to setting up RAID or NAS systems. And if they do, most would really appreciate an even simpler solution.

So how about "Zero Configuration, Zero Frustration and Zero Hassles"?

That's the promise of the ZERO indeed.

Personally, not that I'm sceptical about the aim of realizing that, but can Promise really pull this off?

I know how hard that is but if they can they'll break open a whole new market for these boxes.

Talking of which: the ZERO was going to be based on the reliable 2 bay workhorse, the NS2300 but has now been upgraded to the NS2600. Bigger numbers are always better, right? Well, we'll see if that's the case when they send the demo model used at CES straight to us after the Show.

Anyhow: the picture on the left is the new unit. And a nice looking one at that. Will be relegated to the top of my desk rather than below deck...

And here's some more details on he ZERO:

Silicon Power SDHC Memory Card

You can always count on someone. Here I am stressing because a cheap market chained brand SDHC (Class 6) card fell over 3 times during our review of the Sanyo Xacti VPC - FH1 Camcorder. But lo' and behold Silicon Power via Tasco.com.au came to the rescue.
They aleady know their Class 6 works in the Sanyo ok but they are rushing me their latest and greatest off their assembly line, a 16GB Class 10 SDHC memory card.
We suspect that inferior SDHC cards are causing a lot of problems with all sorts of high demand equipment.

In the Sanyo review we made the bold statement that “Cards just aint cards”.

Will this Memory card deliver for the Sanyo Xacti VPC FH-1 Camcorder?

We shall wait and see!

UPDATE: Review completed 5th Jan 2010. See here.

Promise ZERO prototype
Sometimes getting (a) ZERO isn't too bad... and when it comes from Promise Technology, whose NAS products have been a favourite on our editorial team, this will be a box to look out for.

Particularly if all that NAS and RAID stuff is too finicky to set up for you as the ZERO stands for zero configuration! The picture on the left shows a prototype when it initially was still called SmartStor SNS -- Simple Network Storage.

We'll see if that is really true in a few weeks time.

In the meantime, Promise have just released the NS4600 SR1. That stands for Service Release 1, by the way, which means better performance and lots of new features. We may expand on our NS4600 experiences sometime later as well.

We'll be reviewing this high-tech, reverse navigation system that claims it can navigate you back to a previously marked location in any weather condition -  so stay tuned for the full write up.

UPDATE: The miniHomer has arrived at HeadQuarters -- review to follow soon (if we don't get lost doing other things in the meantime...)
