Sleeptracker Pro

UPDATE: The GiveAway has now concluded and the 3 winners announced!

See below for one of the winners' experience!

Going into the Final Few Weeks of the GiveAway...!

The Number One problem most people seem to have when it comes to starting the new day is waking up when their bodies are not ready for it yet.
A loud ring jolts you out of a deep sleep. Or you don't wake up at the required time and start the day way behind schedule.
There must be a better way.
The folks at Sleeptracker pioneered that way.

We wrote about that here and also when their new Pro model came out recently we reviewed that model as well.

Now Sleeptracker is graciously making available 3 of these Pro units to readers of the DigitalReviews Network.
So if you want to experience firsthand the best way to wake up -- enter our GiveAway!

That would give you the opportunity to make up your own mind on the usefulness of this technology to wake up naturally -- as nature intended -- each and every morning!

Here's how...

So what must you do to score one of these Sleeptrackers?
It's very simple. Here are the details.
First, read both of our reviews (see links above) so that you can see how it all works.

Then, fill in your first name, a valid email address, and tell us why you desperately want to own one of these Sleeptracker watches.
Only one entry per person allowed.

This Giveaway ends on May 30th at midnight, Western Pacific Time.
Results will be announced on the Sleeptracker.com site as well as on DigitalReviews.net.

There is just one favour we would like to ask when you win: let us know what you think of the device.
We would like to post your experiences on our website as the final - the people's - verdict.

See below

The Sleeptracker  watches will be shipped directly from Sleeptracker within a couple of weeks of the end of the Giveaway.
Good luck!

Sleeptracker Pro review

by Mark Wilcox

This watch, much like the rather sinister depiction of Santa Clause, knows when you are sleeping, and knows when you are awake, the magic manifesting itself in the shape inventive gadgets inside the watch that can tell the difference between when you are dead to the world, and, in those intermittent moments, when you are dreaming happily and close to being awake, the logic being that if you wake up during a period of deep sleep, mornings are difficult to deal with, whereas if you get up from an ‘almost awake’ moment waking should be a blissful, and easy to manage experience.

Being the kind of man who has troubles with waking, reverting almost to a Neanderthal state being part of my daily routine, this watch which claims proudly on the box to “monitor your sleep cycles and awaken you at the optimal moment, leaving you refreshed and ready to start the day” seemed like the answer.

Set up, from the box- aided by a comprehensive instruction booklet and simple four button controls, is relatively easy. You set the time, and date, as you would an ordinary watch, before tapping into the Sleeptracker’s special features. Firstly, you set the time you want to be woken by the watch, in my case, 8.30. Secondly, you set the window of time in which you can accept being woken in. This means that, as the ‘almost awake’ moments in sleep and relatively infrequent, it’s unlikely that you would happen to be in one at exactly the time you set your alarm for, so the watch monitors your movement to tell when you are having one (as I understand it, the more you move, the closer you are to being awake) and in the window which can be set for up to 90 minutes centred around the alarm is the time in which the watch tries to find such ‘almost awake’ moments to best rouse you in. Thirdly, and perhaps the most attractive feature, is that you can select the way in which the watch awakes you- you can set it to make a chiming noise much recognised and feared by all alarm clock veterans, or to the much more friendly vibrate setting (the greedy or unsure that a vibration would be enough to wake them can set it to do both). Lastly, comes the software and presumably inspiration for the name ‘sleeptracker’. Connecting the watch to your computer though an interesting crocodile tooth usb clip, the sleep data can be recorded onto the specially designed programme, so all recorded sleep data history can be observed, the almost awake frequency etc. If you wish to, you can add additional information, such as whether you smoked, drank, had a late meal, were interrupted from sleep by noise, etc. From analysis of my first week, it was clear that- rather shockingly- I sleep better if not interrupted by outside noise and I don’t drink, as by hitting the ‘worst sleep sessions’ nights where I did came out on top, complete with a record of how I slept and how I’d managed to ruin a good night of shuteye for myself,  and the ‘best nights sleep sessions’ showed that when I cut back on the booze and wasn’t too hot, I’d slept like a baby.

My experiences of using the sleep tracker:

From the above description, you can be forgiven for thinking that there are a lot of features to cram into one small package. Unfortunately, they got round this by not making the watch particularly small, which is the only disadvantage outside of its price range I can see with the device. Whilst a chunky watch may well suit some people, a sizable proportion on the buying public may be put off by its size, which- admittedly, they have covered well with a diver’s watch stylish design, others of course may prefer to use it only at night for its alarm and sleep recording features, which although sensible does not justify the watch’s hefty price tag.

Despite this, however, the watch fits snugly round the wrist and despite its size, the weight is comparatively low and its easy to forget you wear it. I sleep in a superman style pose with my arm under the pillow and found no discomfort through wearing it at all during my night’s sleep. Having a hit of an erratic sleeping pattern, in that it comes and goes as it pleases, I was unable to use the feature that allows you to set a specific time when you got to sleep, but thankfully the designers included a feature for you to press when you climb into bet that lets the sleep tracking start half an hour after you activate it. Irritatingly, I was overoptimistic with my foreseeing of having a lie in and woke up of my own accord before the alarm window was breached. On day two however, I was roused calmly and efficiently by the watch’s alarm feature fifteen minutes before the allotted alarm time. I did indeed feel far more refreshed than in my usual morning experiences,  but having nothing else to do, I slid back into bed thinking that this would be the end of the story. Sadly, 15 minutes later, at the exact time I’d set the alarm, the thing started to tingle again and make a racket ... determined to wake me up as it promised, to which- this time round- I grudgingly accepted. The pattern continued of being awoken each day  by an odd sensation of vibration- much like that of a mobile phone being on my arm- within 30 mins before or after my allotted alarm time. Being an intrepid reviewer, I rotated between the options of just alarm, just vibrate and both to see if they all worked the same. They did all indeed work adequately, although being woken up by an alarm was much more annoying after having been used to waking in silence with my arm quivering.

Overall, I found the watch to be a useful gadget, albeit a large (for a watch) and expensive one. Those on a budget may be weary of shelling out a large amount, especially considering that a cheaper, older model of the sleeptracker is still available, with a shorter alarm window option and minus the vibrate function (in my opinion, it is the vibrate feature which really sold the product to me)  Secondly, although the watch certainly makes waking up a much easier and refreshing experience- it cannot perform miracles. As already noted, getting out of bed is made a less horrendous task, but it doesn’t completely remove the desire for sleep in the mornings. The best method of waking up fully refreshed, as indirectly suggested by my sleep logs, is to live healthily and acquire a good sleeping pattern- but for those such as myself who routinely ignore this advice, the sleeptracker pro certainly helps to get up in the morning the easy way. Shame they couldn’t have made it just a little bit thinner...
