GlobalTop HUD

We just had an interview with John Yang, Sales Manager for GlobalTop who are launching the HUD GPS Speed Meter which attracted huge attention at CeBIT. You might remember our earlier post on this Bluetooth GPS which projects your vehicle speed and navigational direction onto your windscreen, just like in a jet fighter.
Here's some more info on this Head-Up Display unit which should only cost around USD100 when it becomes available next month. We also will be one of the first to have a review unit and we might even be able to give a few away! So stay tuned!
Here are the details:

We asked John where the interest mainly came from during their presentation at CeBIT.
He mentioned that predominantly it came from ICT distributors who are already selling GPS products.
But, not surprisingly, many individuals also wanted to know the when and where and how much...
GlobalTop has distributors in most countries but still need more, particularly in Australia.

How soon get we get one?
Europe will be the first continent to get the HUD when it becomes available, followed by the rest of the world.
UK, Spain, Germany and Italy will be the very first countries because of the established sales channels where it may be sold under GlobalTop's name or via some famous Europe brands because GlobalTop also provides ODM service.
GlobalTop HUD
Will it work all by itself?

The HUD GPS Speed Meter can work as a standalone device, projecting the speed and direction or work together with a navigator program such as TomTom or GlobalTop's latest product, the Chase 750 (which we just received and will be reviewing soon).

What's the battery life like?
Without HUD (meaning whilst not projecting), it can work at least for 10 hours, we are still working on extending the battery life. With HUD display on, you must have the power adaptor connected because HUD is high power consumption device.

Can the projected light be dimmed for night driving?
Sure, we included a light sensor and it will adjust the brightness automatically in day time or at night.

So there you have it! It's tantalizingly close. We will have our review unit within a few weeks and have asked John to also make some units available to give away. He has generously promised to do that and if you want to be in the running for your own Head-Up Display unit keep watching (and reading) this space!
