PowerMonkey eXplorer

At DigitalReviews Network we not only bring news of gadgets, we also like to bring news of devices which will power your gadgets on the move for longer.

Along comes the PowerMonkey.

According to the manufacturer, "the PowerMonkey will revolutionise the way in which you charge your devices. Imagine it's a portable petrol pump for your technology!"

Imagine this scenario.  Driving in a foreign city, in a hired car that has the indicator stalk in the opposite position to what you are used to, navigating via the GPS, looking out for speed cameras and trying to spot the sign for the correct lane to be in when the power to your GPS runs out.  This was the situation yours truly faced last week and yes, I should have known better.  I survived with a bit of good old eyeballing of a street directory and arrived at my destination just ahead of time.  In hindsight I really should have packed the right chargers for the trip, or better yet, a single charger with the right connectors for my plethora of devices.

The PowerMonkey looks the bee's knees of portable power, with an universal mains charger that claims to work over 150 countries and interchangeable heads for US, Australia, UK and Europe.  According to the manufacturer, a fully charged PowerMonkey will provide up to 96 hours of standby time on a mobile phone, 40 hours on iPod, 6 hours on PSP, 2 full charges on a PDA and up to 1600 pictures on a digital camera.  Better yet, the PowerMonkey claims to hold its charge without leakage for up to a year!

There are two genus of the PowerMonkey: the mains-powered Classic or the solar-powered eXplorer.  The latter features water-resistant rubberised casing, a folding solar panel and a LCD screen that displays remaining charge.  Both come complete with a set of adapters.

PowerMonkey comes with:
