Reviews

Independent write-ups after weeks of end-user experiences and testing.
You may often find indispensible advice here and a no-nonsense attitude to evaluating the products.
We don’t go for the bits-and-bytes approach but aim to address the core factor: value-for-money for the average end-user.

Adobe CS5 Master Collection
When we received our evaluation edition of Adobe CS5 we knew it could be a long time before we would be able to give our first impressions.  First up, the Master Collection is massive: some 15 (fifteen!) programs all tightly woven together.  Secondly, whilst familiar with Photoshop, most of the other programs we have not used before and some of them are best left to the professionals to evaluate.  These are the people that have need of these programs on a daily basis.
Our task here at DigitalReviews is simply to give an overview of the total package by way of introduction.  That sounds simple enough but for the sheer enormity of the package.

Our recent review of Adobe’s Lightroom 3 edition was a lot simpler to write as I use this very focussed application on a daily basis but how will we fare with what has always been seen as a disparate and diverse bunch of applications thrown together fairly randomly? Or is that no longer the case? Is this a pizza with The Works that just tastes delicious no matter how you slice it?
We’ll do the overview first to give you some flavour.

Then in Part II we’ll cover some highlights of the new Photoshop.
So let's have a quick look.

Astone AP-380DT
We were so impressed with the former “top of the tree” media player, the Astone AP 360T, that we leapt at the opportunity to review the latest and greatest from www.astone.com.au.  The new flagship Astone Media Gear AP 380DT Media Player with Dual Tuner is the next generation player which we have got the scoop on.  This product is so hot off the assembly line that the manual has not even been put together in written format yet.

If this new model follows in the innovative footsteps of the previous one, then we are expecting to be very impressed as we have just remembered that the old model AP 360T fair kicked up a storm and set new records in the “hits” department.

So let’s put the two models side by side and see what new things Astone have done.

Starcraft 2 - Wings of Liberty

The biggest game to hit stores this summer is without a doubt Blizzard’s latest creation and sequel to the 1998 original hit, Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. I got a chance to play through each of the facets of this behemoth of a game and this is what I have to say about it.

Casio G1

Ever since the G1 was announced my adventurous side stirred: here’s a Point & Shoot camera that will go the rugged distance with you. Over land or under water. And it will give you some very memorable images if you remember to give the lens a wipe every now and then to clear the dust. Or just rinse it.

Yes, the shock resistant G1 is yet another ‘funtographic’ device from the Casio stable and as we’ve observed in previous reviews, Casio puts a lot of fun features into their compact cameras. Last time we reviewed the super high speed member of the Exilim tribe and today we have a quick look at the G1.

Navigon
When I was offered the opportunity to review the Navigon 2410/2510 I had mixed feelings about this modern technology. When I was young I had been taught a simple method to find my way. And my intuition has never failed me, otherwise I wouldn't now be sitting at home typing this story! To be honest: often I had to ask someone, look at maps... it's not only intuition that got me home...

After taking these little tools for some thorough test drives, bicycle rides, and walks I am convinced that this new technology can be an excellent addition to my own intuition in finding my way. Especially when driving, it helps me concentrate on the traffic. I don't have the added stress of looking for the right direction... It also saves me money in the gas bill, because it keeps telling me which way to go to reach my destination.

The ease of use, it's size just right, multimode - and despite the glitches I came across - I can recommend you to put this Navigon 2410/2510 on your list when you want to choose a new gps navigation set. It may well turn out to be your choice, because of its value for money.

Dragon V24 920 EP
Looks like a black bullet - 920 mm long with heaps of aesthetic appeal.  I’m talking about the V24 MDF 920 EP remote controlled electric racing boat built by Dragon.  We have tested three of the Aquacraft range, one of the Joysway’s, and whilst Wirelesshobbyz has them all, at our request he has sent us something we thought should be a bit different.

Does it go as good as it looks?

Primo Cube Extended Battery
With every rechargeable external battery we review here our hopes are high: is this the best accessory for my mobile?  Because if they really deliver everyone should have one.
We’ve reviewed plenty of them here on DigitalReviews.net including solar ones. And the end result is very much the same for these external battery charging devices
But right from the unpacking the Primo Cube got me excited.
Let’s see what this is all about.

ioSafe Orange

The latest and fastest member of the ioSafe family of tough guys landed on our desk today. Weighing in at 15 pounds (for just 1 hard drive!) you get the distinct impression that this baby gorilla will stand its ground no matter what life throws at it: come hail or flood, fire or brimstone!
Brimstone? Haven’t seen that in any natural disasters lately but it may be on the cards yet...
Anyway, the SoloPRO looks like one hefty, over-engineered, over-protective guardian of your irreplaceable data.
Welcome to my office, black beast, and we’ll see how good you really are.
