With the beautiful and elegant design of the iPod, it can be difficult finding the perfect case. A leather case can easily make it much bulkier and might not retain the 'cool' appearance of the iPod. Today, I will be reviewing the iSkin eVo2 case for the iPod. Unlike the materials you'd might expect in typical cases, the iSkin eVo2 is entirely made out of silicone. As a flexible material, let's find out if this case has what it takes to maintain the elegance and functionality of the iPod. |
Packaging/Contents
The iSkin eVo2 came in a nice clear vinyl zippered bag. Inside the bag, there was the iSkin eVo2 itself as well as a user manual. Right at the main screen area of the iSkin eVo2, there is a label indicating that a clear plastic screen protector and a belt clip is included with the eVo2. Overall, this is a very simple, yet complete package. I did not expect a belt clip nor a screen protector initially to come with the case, but are certainly welcome in the package.
A Closer Look
When looking at the iSkin eVo2 case, this case had a very nice shade of blue. It has openings for the main screen of the iPod as well as the click-scroll wheel at the front of the case.
At the back of the case, I noticed that there was a belt clip already attached. What is mainly noticed are the holes at the back of the case which is used to help with heat dissipation coming from the metal back of the iPod.
The top of the case has openings for the headphone jack at the top as well as for the 'Hold' button. The iSkin eVo2 surrounds those functions very nicely.
Lastly, the iSkin eVo2 generally covers the bottom of the case. In order to plug in the data cable at the bottom, you just lift the flap that covers the port. The flap has been cut well so that it will not rip or break of easily.

I still haven't quite mentioned yet how you install the case onto your iPod. When first looking at all the sides of the case, I noticed that there were no major openings. For a moment, I was wondering how I would place the iPod into the case until I realized that you place it through the main display area. All you have to do is stretch the case a bit to fit the iPod into the case.
When the iPod is in the iSkin eVo2, it made the iPod just slightly thicker, which does not affect its portability at all. The iSkin eVo2 fit perfectly and snug with the iPod. When holding it in your hands, the iSkin feels very firm and solid. Also, since the case is made of silicone, it enhances the overall grip of the iPod. Because this case fits so well and with the help of the protector, this case can take quite a beating without having to worry at all about unnecessary scratches to the iPod. With the choice of using silicone for this case, the only downside is that it will pick up lint and small dust particles over time, which may dull the color.
Conclusion
When looking at the iSkin eVo2 by itself, this case is very impressive. Out of all the cases that I've seen, even for other devices such as phones and PDA's, i found this case to work extremely well. The case retains the portability while providing good overall protection to your iPod. The only part of your iPod that will be exposed in the case is the click-scroll wheel at the front. As long as you aren't too rough with your iPod in the iSkin eVo2 case, it shouldn't be a problem at all. At the price of $29.99, this case is about the equivalent price you'd expect for an aluminium or leather case. Considering that an iPod is a couple hundred dollars, this is a small investment that should last the lifetime of your iPod. Keep in mind that the eVo2 comes in a wide range of colors as well that can make your standard iPod look like a large iPod mini.
