Steelseries

Choosing a pair of good headphones can be a delicate process sometimes because there are many factors that a person must consider in order to like them. The obvious one is sound quality. Without good sound quality we don't really consider them in the first place. Second, they have to be comfortable. Headphones need to be well designed and can be worn for long periods  without irritating the user. Other things that are taken into consideration are materials, workmanship, and of course price. We all want to find a good pair of headphones that excel in all those areas are at least have a good balance of them. Today, we will be reviewing the SteelSound 3H Gaming Headphones. These headphones are labeled as gaming headphones, but that doesn't mean we can try using them in other applications as well. As gaming headphones, these are generally catered for those who play games on their computer frequently and are also looking for something they can easily take to LAN parties or events. Let's find out how well these do.

Design

Compared with SteelSteries' previous product offerings, these headphones will seem lighter and small in comparison. In the box, you can see that the headphones are neatly folded for portability.

To unfold them, you just unbend the hinges, and then rotate the ear cups so that they they are facing each other. By then, the headphones are ready to be used.

The cups are padded with the typical padding seen on most headphones, therefore, there's no complaint there at all. The top part of the headphones is plastic, but the headband is a thick piece of nylon to support the head.

There is an integrated microphone built into the headphones that you can easily pull out and slide back in when necessary. The microphone extends approximately 2 inches so that it can barely reach your mouth.

The main cord extending from the headphones is well connected and the wire is neither too thick or too thin. At the end of the cord are two connectors. One for the speakers of the headphones, and one to be used for the microphone.

Sound Quality

I was quite impressed with these headphones. For headphones of this size, I was surprised by the amount of bass these headphones could produce. The highs could be slightly higher. When playing music and listening to games, I noticed instrumental and short sounds to sound the best and the most noticeable. Voices in games and music were good, but nothing breathtaking worth mentioning.

Conclusion

I think these are very good headphones. Because of their portability and size, I think many gamers will appreciate these headphones and how versatile these can be. Although they aren't noise cancelling, the headphones cover your ear in a way that it does help with deadening some ambient noises. If portability is your main concern, this is one of SteelSeries' better headphones. On the other hand, if you're looking more for positional sound and effects, I would consider one of SteelSeries' other headphones. These headphones can be bought directly at the SteelSeries website for $49.95, which is not bad at all.
