SECOND SKIN

The EXO Pro 2 Apple Keyboard protector is essentially a rubber skin that sits atop your wafer thin Apple keyboard protecting it from those daily accidents that make you cringe.

Love it or hate it, the new Apple keyboard is an elaborately sculpted piece of hardware and the more you look at it, the more you feel obligated to protect it.  If having an adventurous three year old wasn’t enough, placing the computer in the kitchen has made me wonder exactly how I could keep this work of art in pristine condition.

After doing some googling I found the EXO Pro 2 Keyboard protector.

A week later my keyboard protector arrived and it’s a winner.  The keyboard protector is a perfect fit and when placed on the keyboard, literally becomes the keyboard’s top layer of skin.  The skin covers the keyboard completely, protecting it from dust, grime and liquid spills with ease.

Typing with the protector on does make the typing experience different but not as bad as one might expect.  The protector’s excellent fit and rubbery texture helps it stay firmly in place even when typing at full speed.  Secretaries please note:  Full speed for me is a paltry thirty-three words per minute.

Like all rubberised product I have come across, this protector does have one familiar drawback.  While it does keep the skin firmly in place, the gummy property of the protector does have a tendency to attract dust and dirt.  Even though the keyboard protector looks like it can be rejuvenated through washing, just once I wish someone would invent a non stick rubbery film, or better yet, a skin that was gummy on one side and slick on the other.

Despite this, I am very pleased with the protector and if you consider the visible dirt the keyboard protector collects as an indicator of how well it’s protecting your keyboard, then it’s money well spent, really.

The EXO Pro 2 skin is available from XSKN directly in four colours for $24.95US.
