Meet a Puppy-Sized computer: the Norhtec MicroClient SR

 Norhtec MicroClient

The web is a fast medium: before you know it you're surfing off to other shores. So let me get the message out straight away: if you have a tight budget, love our planet, and need a computer, then put the Norhtec MicroClient Sr at the top of your shortlist! This is the smallest computer I have seen until now, and can be used in many situations to replace the larger and heavier computer system.  If you are starting with a clean slate, even better: definitely consider this tiny powerhouse! It's a small computer in physical size, uses a lot less energy. BUT let its Puppy Size not deceive you: there's a lot of power inside to address your (personal) computing and communication needs.

Ruvo Avox A65U1 UMPC - The Unboxing Review

 Ruvo Avox

The vibrant world of UMPCs has many players, most of them well-known brands, others less so, but probably deserving our attention just the same.  In this category you will find the Ruvo Avox, a handsome slider UMPC.  Think of it as a Nokia N95 on steroids, but then a lot bigger!  The Avox, whilst practically unknown, has a more familiar incarnation as the Gigabyte U60.  Are they exactly the same?

We got ourselves the first Avox in Australia, courtesy of Tegatech, the UMPC distributor par excellence down under.  They are excited about that little critter and I am beginning to see why!

Please follow me on this unboxing and our subsequent in-depth reviews of the Ruvo Avox.

First off, the Avox is billed as the smallest full-featured PC.  In this fluid world of sub-notebooks and UMPCs that claim is probably correct but bragging rights are never long-lived and it is better to judge a device, particularly when it is this small, by its usability.  So that will be the main focus of this and the following reviews.

Today we will be looking at the Avox from the unboxing perspective and go into the hardware details.

A next review will highlight the software and performance aspects to be followed by a write-up of all the various accessories that can be bought separately.

Linutop Mini Linux PC Reviewed - Damn Small Linux Hardware

LinutopThe Linutop is a small Linux PC. Of course, if you think the Mac Mini is small, then perhaps the words, incredibly miniscule are closer to the mark.

Running a customised version of xubuntu Linux, this little box could replace your desktop for most common tasks, including what you're doing right now.

And if this wasn't impressive enough in a box slightly larger than a Nintendo DS, the Linutop does it all drawing a maximum of 5 watts - That's less than an energy saver light bulb!

WIRELESS COMPUTING RF-220 Keyboard Reviewed

RF-220 Wireless Keyboard

KEYBOARDING CONUNDRUM

In my experience, keyboards are probably the most overlooked piece of essential computing equipment.  For years I have been putting together computers and for years I have purchased keyboards on the cheap.  After all, a good video card is more important than a decent set of keys to bash, isn't it?

Wireless Computing's RF-220 Wireless Keyboard begs to differ.

Zerotherm BTF90

When evaluating a CPU cooler, there are several things to look into.  In order of importance, the obvious factor is how well the product actually cools the CPU.  And then the next question to ask is how simple is it to install.  And then it would also be nice if the cooling solution looked good at the same time.  The ZeroTherm BTF90 is a product that provides an elegant-looking cooling solution that aims to nail down all of these key areas and excel in them at the same time.

Logitech MX Mouse

I have seldom been so enthusiastic about having to review (yet) another mouse as when we received the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse.  The MX Revolution might sound like marketing hype but it is a Revolution in more ways than one.  If you can see beyond the initial price shock this is arguably the best all-purpose mouse out there and we will show you why.

Logitech webcam

Web cams have been around for a long time, but many of them suffered from poor video and picture quality.  They had poor video quality because there was a high delay time between your actual movement and what was captured by the web cam;  poor picture quality because pictures never seemed to have the proper lighting and lacked clarity and resolution.  Logitech's QuickCam Ultra Vision web cam is a new product which addresses the issues of video and picture quality all bundled into a convenient simple package.

Logitech VX Revolution Notebook Mouse

Notebook mice always seem to always fall behind in terms of performance compared with their older brothers, the desktop mice.  The main reason for this is because notebook mice are designed for better portability for users who are on the go.  Users, whether it is someone who is always on the road or only occasionally, want to be able to carry a mouse that isn’t going create a big bulge or weight in their bag.  They simply want the features and performance of a desktop mouse all in a smaller package.  Today, we will be taking a look at Logitech’s latest notebook mouse, the VX Revolution.  Is this mouse indeed a “revolution” in notebook mice?  Let’s find out.
