Manager Assistant is a great way for managers to keep track of all
employee-related information all in a single program. It does common
tasks such as keeping track of employee information, doing performance
reviews, or even their attendance.
If you are a manager, have you ever wanted to be able to keep track of
employee information? Managers already have a busy and hectic life,
and keeping tracking of employees is more like a chore to them. If
only managers could keep that kind of information organized so they can
focus on more important tasks. Today, I will be taking a look at a
software program whose main purpose is to provide managers a tool that
consolidates employee information all into a single program interface.
So let's put myself in the shoes of a manager and see how well this
software works.
The Main Interface
The main interface is very easy to look at and reminds me of Microsoft Outlook. You have buttons on the left side that allow you to quickly switch between various categories. There is also a calendar which includes reminders, a check list of things to do, and reports section (I will expand more on this later). Overall, it has a very clean interface and I was able to get used to the interface very quickly.
The category buttons on the left side of the screen are the best part of the interface. The buttons quickly let you know the range of things that can be done with this program. Buttons include employees, attendance, performance reviews, goals, incidents, accomplishments, training, recruitment, and expenses.
Employees
The employees tab lets you view all the employees that you are managing. There is a wide range of fields that can be chosen. Examples include date of birth, review date, manager, location, date entered, etc. The various column names can be customized by allowing only relevant information to show. You can even quickly sort the list based on a column to make it easier to look for an employee. All the information can be easily entered by creating or editing an employee details. Just double click an entry and a window will pop up to let you view the information which is also organized in tabs as well.
Attendance

The attendance section lets you view the attendance of the employees and to keep track of when employees have taken time off and even label the reason they took time off. You can view a summary of each employee's attendance over the year with the graph it shows.
Performance Reviews

When it's time for performance reviews, a manager can easily create a review in a step by step process. Just like any other performance review, information includes a rating as well as comments from the manager. And when you are all done, you can easily let the program generate a document that can be given to the employee for reference.
Goals
Managers set goals for employees to help define the basis of their rating when it's time for a performance review or giving out that bonus. The goals section allows the entering of goal information to remind the manager of the goals they set for each individual employee.
Incidents/Accomplishments
I think these sections will end up being the least used functions. If there is an incident or there is a warning, it is more than likely that a manager will remember that incident. The accomplishments section is for those times when a small award of gift card was given to an employee for exemplary work.
Training

Sometimes, an employee undergoes training and the manager would like to keep track of what kind of things the employee learned. The training section helps to keep track of when an employee had training.
Recruitment
There will always be people applying to join the company. In this case, you can also keep track of a person's resume information in this section.
Expenses
A manager always has the most expenses. This is where a manager's expenses can be consolidated into one place.
Thoughts/Analysis
This is a powerful software program that is very accessible to managers no matter if you are working at a large or small company. Some managers may only use certain parts of the program, while others may take advantage of all the functions. At a large company, there may already be processes in place in keeping track of employee time off or already have a system for performance reviews. In these cases, this program serves more as a manager's personal tool. But if it is a manager at a smaller company where there is less process, a manager may choose to use this tool to dictate and make decisions based on the information that was entered in the program. The program's report generation capability seems to be the best feature of the program. There are already predefined reports that you use to view information at a higher view. In the recruitment section, I'd like to see the capability of attaching a resume to a person rather than having to enter in all the information separately. Also, when reports are generated, I'd like to see the capability of formatting the report layout and look to allow the manager to make the reports look more unique.
Conclusion
For a single license, the program is $395. This may be very expensive to an individual alone, but is definitely worth it for a small or medium company. I really enjoyed using this program. This is the first time I have ever seen a program anything like this for managers. With this tool in the hands of managers, it will help them to become more organized, be more efficient when managing employees, and be able to spend more time on more important tasks.
