Sometimes a new product is so similar to what we reviewed earlier and only differing in capacity that we are happy to refer to an earlier review. Such is the case with the new Apricorn Aegis external drive which now comes in a 256 GB capacity and minus the security keypad of the other model.

So let's just summarise what this one is all about.

Occasionally we do a "Show " rather than a series of reviews of products from the same company. That highlights a bit more the scope and range and makes it often easier to differentiate between the various units.

So on today's smorgasbord we present three different NAS units from QNAP on the menu: we have the brand-new TS -220, a real lightweight beauty and at the other end of the scale the TS-870U-RP, an 8 bay budget beast for the big end of town. And to round it off we also have the newly announced TS-421 which fits squarely in the middle.
Let's have a look.

We've had the pleasure of testing and using one of the latest five bay NAS stations from Thecus over several weeks. After the many Synology and Q NAP units we reviewed it's nice to see that they are not the only Taiwanese companies that can deliver a well-crafted, good performing NAS unit for businesses and home use.
These days, functionality and features are probably more important than speed alone so we will be concentrating in this short article on the F & F of the Thecus N5550.

Read more: Synology DS213air 2 bay NAS - A Magic Box of TricksThe Synology DS213air is a lightweight two bay NAS unit and lightweight is something I would never have associated Synology with. True, the box is rather small, made of plastic and has only two bays. This makes it light in weight, but functionally, it's a different story: it has a lot of tricks on its sleeve that I would like to explore with you.

One of them, as indicated in the name, is its wireless abilities.
Come along and I will show you.

This review can be short because we have reviewed many products from Apricorn, including an earlier model of the Aegis Bio with fingerprint reader.

We will state our bias upfront: we are fans of this Californian outfit which specialises in manufacturing external storage devices with great security features. However, I'm not particularly a fan of fingerprint readers, much preferring keypad security.

So how did we go with this one?

Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme PX-256M5P

Read more: Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme PX-256M5PUp until I embarked on this review, my strongest memory of Plextor is their dominance of the optical drive market in the 1990s.  Simply put, they had the best CD-ROM writer in the days when making "coasters" was commonplace.  These days Plextor has retained their storage beginnings with a focus on Solid State Drives (SSD).  DigitalReviews would like to thank Plextor for providing a M5Pro (PX-256M5P) Xtreme for review.
