 Runtime

Many applications are available to write software. Most of them are very complicated, and you'll need to start from scratch if you want to learn using it: it is based upon an unfamiliar language, with its own separate grammar/syntax.

Amongst the many approaches is one, that builds upon the use of the English language. If you know English, you can make a "quick start". This type of scripting language was introduced to "the rest of us" when HyperCard was made available on the Apple Macintosh, during the latter part of the eighties in the twentieth century - now some twenty years ago. The scripting language was called HyperTalk. From that idea some interesting applications have evolved.

One of those tools is called Runtime Revolution, which is still very actively being developed. While writing this review about version 2.9, version 3.0 is on its way to be released during the autumn of this year. When I was discovering the possibilities of HyperCard, I was fascinated. Looking into the state of affairs now reminds me of that period, and I must say - after all these years - I can still get enthusiastic about this subject. So here are my impressions in the summer of 2008:

Winplus Home Automation Ultimate Starter and Security Kits Reviewed

WinPlus
I am all for home automation but I draw the line at the suggestion it enables us to wake up in the morning with a pot of coffee freshly brewed all while still fast asleep!  For some that might be the nearest thing to heaven but there are more useful things to automate in my opinion.  For starters, the ability to control or dim certain lights is a good idea.  Or to switch on otherwise inaccessible devices around the house.  And certainly the ability to simplify the control of home entertainment devices.

Let's have a look at the Winplus Home Automation and the Ultimate Starter Kit which lets you do all that.
We will also have a quick look at the capabilities of the Security Kit which ties into many of the functions as well in addition to being a full-fledged security system.

Das Keyboard Professional - The Best Keyboard on the Planet?

Das KeyboardThat's a pretty big claim but one that the folks at Das Keyboard promote openly on their website. While it certainly looks the part, underneath its skin the Das keyboard features German-engineered gold-plated mechanical key switches - I had to read that twice too - providing both audio and tactile feedback.

The Das Keyboard also features blue LEDs and two USB 2.0 ports and can record an amazing 12 key presses at the one time! And just in case that wasn't cool enough, the Das Keyboard comes in an "ultimate" version featuring completely blank keys.

We'll try to secure a Das Keyboard in the next few weeks to test how good this keyboard really is, but for the moment we are happy to suggest the Das Keyboard is certainly one of the coolest typing implements on the planet!

Both the Das Keyboard Professional and Das Keyboard Ultimate are available directly from Das Keyboard for $129US.
