Julie Barns
Editor
I am Julie and one of the editors at Digital Reviews Network. I’ve known another reviewer – Lis – for going on 20 years now after a meeting in the small, rural town of Brewarrina NSW. We hit it off straight away, quickly discovering our love of language, quilting, and TimTams. It was the delightful Lis who suggested I might like to write reviews!
I have always held an interest in technology. Probably because I was scarred when learning to touch type on an old Olivetti typewriter. I quickly embraced typing on a PC. I recall my father buying me a Dick Smith VZ200 and a dot matrix printer – those were the days.
My background is in education in Performing Arts (Dance & Drama) and English. I have dabbled in curriculum writing and was on the team that wrote the Year 1 – 10 The Arts curriculum and support materials (2002).
My passion however is dance, specifically classical ballet. I recall the first time I performed a contemporary piece choreographed by Gidoen Obarzanek (ex-Sydney Dance Co.) and being blown away by the juxtaposition of the use of technology with dance. I love the Australasian Dance Company’s use of technology in their works too!
When not in the studio, theatre or in a performing arts classroom, I can be found behind a sewing machine, with my nose in a good book, or out hiking in the cheap showiness of nature!
