Take a guess at how many pages did Amazon Kindle customers turned in 2025?
Today Amazon has unveiled Kindle’s Year in Reading – a celebration of reading, bestselling books, and trends that defined 2025. The answer to the question is Australian Kindle customers consumed an average of over 1.6 BILLION pages a month.
From the moment readers woke up to their morning chapters through late-night page-turning sessions, Kindle was there.
The Books We Couldn’t Put Down
Some stories simply demand to be devoured in one sitting. Onyx Storm claimed the title of this year’s most unputdownable fiction title in Australia, with Kindle readers crowning it the most read fiction title of the year. Meanwhile, The Housemaid and The Lost Bookshop topped the bestseller charts, capturing hearts and imaginations across Australia.
But it wasn’t just individual titles that had readers hooked – entire series became obsessions. Zodiac Academy and Chestnut Springs emerged as the most-binged book series of the year in Australia, with readers unable to resist the pull of “just one more chapter”.
Our Reading Rituals
January was the year’s peak reading month for Australia, with readers kicking off the year by diving into new stories. And the time people turn to their Kindle’s most? Morning time emerged as the nation’s favorite moment to get lost in a story, with readers making ‘picking up a Kindle’ part of their morning routine.
Romance dominated as the most popular genre, stealing the hearts of Aussie readers in 2025. When it comes to who Aussies are reading, Freida McFadden claimed the title of most-read Kindle author of the year, captivating readers with stories that kept them coming back for more.
From Page to Screen and Back Again
The relationship between television and reading has never been stronger. When ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty‘ premiered this year, downloads of the book series spiked by 372% in 2025, demonstrating how adaptations drive viewers back to discover – or rediscover – the original stories that inspired them.
The Lines That Stayed With Us
Beyond just reading, Kindle customers in Australia engaged deeply with their books, creating 644 million highlights throughout the year. As readers worldwide marked the passages that resonated most, “I am yours and you are mine, and there’s no law or rule in this world or the next that will change that” in Rebecca Yarros’ Onyx Storm became one of the most highlighted phrases of the year, with readers capturing the moment that stayed with them long after the final page.

I know Julie is a bookworm, taking her eBook reader everywhere including sneaking pages at work. As for Kevin? He is still making his way through The Uncaged Sky by Kylie Moore-Gilbert. Before that I read All Her Fault by Andrea Mara, I figured I should read it before I watch the show where my daughter had a tiny part in.
