A mobile app has been announced the winner of the 2025 Australian Good Design Award in the Digital Design category. This distinguished accolade, for Hoyts Cinemas, comes on the back of the app also being recognised by the w3 International Awards where it took home silver in four categories.
The Good Design Australia Awards acknowledge excellence in design and innovation, celebrating the most groundbreaking projects from around the world. The awards also recognise visionary work across 13 Design Disciplines and more than 35 categories, spanning the built environment, product design, engineering, digital, social impact, policy design and other categories.
HOYTS Group’s Director of Information Technology, Adam Wrightson, said winning the Australian Good Design Award reflects the dedication of the entire team and is an accomplishment everyone involved can take pride in.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition from the Australian Good Design Awards. The project was proudly led by our Digital Operations and Product Manager, Simone Fisher, together with the internal technical team under Geoff Henry, who collaborated closely with our partners at Chook Digital to create the innovative design,” Wrightson said.
“At HOYTS, our goal is to delight customers, so this award for our mobile app is both an honour and a testament to that commitment.”
Each entry in the Good Design Australia Awards undergoes a rigorous evaluation by more than 80 international jurors who assess submissions against three core criteria: Good Design, Design Innovation, and Design Impact.
Upon winning this year’s award for Digital Design, the Australian Good Design Awards Jury praised HOYTS for its consumer-friendly application.
“The HOYTS Mobile App makes movie going effortless. A well thought through technical platform solution and overall well executed app that supports a smooth movie going experience. While the design is familiar, the shared codebase and seamless functionality reflect a smart, scalable solution that benefits both users and the business. An inspiring project that raises the bar in the Digital Design discipline,” the Jury said.
The 2025 Australian Good Design Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday 17 October at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney, where more than 1,000 guests from design, architecture, engineering and business sectors will come together to celebrate the transformational power of good design.
