TCL Electronics Australia is making waves, with a recent SQD-Mini LED Experience Event held at the iconic Museum of Contemporary Art on Sydney Harbour, celebrating its pioneering Super Quantum Dot (SQD) television technology.
The event provided attendees with an immersive, hands-on demonstration of the cutting-edge picture technology, which combines SQD technology with an advanced Mini LED backlight system to virtually eliminate colour cross-talk while delivering exceptional brightness, deep blacks and highly accurate colour volume across the new SQD-Mini LED TV lineup. The highlight of the evening was a darkroom experience where guests witnessed the full brightness and colour gamut of TCL’s SQD-Mini LED range in a pitch-black, soundproofed room purpose-built within the venue.
Products on display at the event included the X11L SQD-Mini LED TV, TCL’s flagship model from the SQD-Mini LED range offering up to 20,736 dimming zones for superior contrast. TCL also showcased its C-Series range, including the company’s C8L SQD-Mini LED TV, C7L SQD-Mini LED TV, and C6L QD-Mini LED TV.
“This event was all about bringing our incredible super quantum dot technology to life, showcasing the stunning contrast and vibrant, ultra colour filter panels that make this range so special,” said Hawke Zhang, TCL Electronics Australia and New Zealand’s Managing Director.

TCL Australia Product Manager Richard Falzon emphasised during his speech that TCL, as the first company to bring Mini LED technology to market in 2019, continues to invest and innovate in this area. Steven Bradbury OAM, Winter Olympic gold medallist and four-time Olympian, was also in attendance to celebrate the evening. He shared his personal experience with TCL – an Official Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner – and what the company’s ‘Inspire Greatness’ tagline meant to him specifically.

TCL announced the Australian launch of its SQD TV lineup in early May, marking a meaningful step forward in display innovation.
Prior to the Sydney launch event, I was invited to TCL’s new Melbourne showroom to experience the company’s SQD-Mini LED technology firsthand. While the launch presentation highlighted the technical capabilities of the new range, the showroom demonstrations provided an opportunity to see how the technology performs in real-world viewing scenarios.
As part of the demonstration, we were shown direct comparisons between TCL’s display technology and competing offerings.
The colour saturation, contrast, clarity and fine detail reproduction were exceptional. I was genuinely impressed by the overall image quality.
While many manufacturers promote HDR10 as a key marketing feature, the demonstration footage showcased TCL’s ability to preserve detail across both bright highlights and deep shadows. Even in challenging high-contrast scenes, there was little noticeable loss of detail, resulting in a more balanced and immersive viewing experience.
Also worth highlighting is that every TV in TCL’s 2026 range includes Google Gemini AI, with TCL becoming the first TV brand globally to launch with Google Gemini pre-installed.
Update: TCL Brings Google TV with Gemini to More TVs [24 June 2026]
TCL has announced the rollout of Google TV with Gemini across a wider range of its television portfolio, bringing advanced AI-powered voice interactions and content discovery to eligible models via software update.
The update introduces Google’s Gemini AI assistant to supported TCL televisions without requiring new hardware, delivering a more conversational and intuitive smart TV experience.
With Google TV powered by Gemini, users can:
- Discover content through natural conversations
- Ask questions and receive helpful answers directly on-screen
- Control compatible smart home devices using voice commands
- Access personalised viewing recommendations
- Play music and manage entertainment more seamlessly
According to TCL, the rollout is now underway in the UK and will continue across key European markets throughout 2026. Supported models include TCL’s latest SQD-Mini LED lineup, including the X11L, C8L and C7L series, alongside RGB Mini LED models such as the RM9L and RM7L.
The Gemini integration also extends to eligible 2025 TCL television models, with availability depending on regional rollout schedules and software update eligibility.
