WD brings an unified identity for their professional content creator storage portfolio. With the re-launch of WD G-DRIVE, they are consolidating SanDisk Professional products under the G-DRIVE umbrella.

G-DRIVE solutions are purpose-built for demanding workflows across high-res photography, video production, graphic design and audio, supporting creators, businesses and production studios from capture to backup and postproduction.

Set to transition by the end of the month, the initial lineup includes:

  • G-DRIVE ArmorATD: Rugged portable storage up to 6TB, with shock resistance and IP54 protection for mobile and on-location workflows.
  • G-DRIVE: High-capacity desktop drive up to 26TB, powered by enterprise-class Ultrastar® HDDs for sustained editing, backup and archive performance.
  • G-DRIVE PROJECT: Single-bay Thunderbolt® 3 desktop solution up to 26TB, for demanding creative workloads.
  • G-RAID PROJECT 2: Dual-bay Thunderbolt® 3 RAID system up to 52TB, for accelerated post-production performance.
  • G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 and SHUTTLE 8: Transportable four- and eight-bay RAID arrays of up to 208TB, with hot-swappable enterprise drives for on-set and multi-camera productions.

Existing SanDisk Professional HDD-based products will continue to receive full support and warranty coverage by WD. Products with new G-DRIVE branding have already begun shipping.

The brand transition follows Western Digital’s separation into a standalone HDD company in late February 2025. WD will also continue offering HDD products in its colour portfolio including WD Gold for enterprise, WD Purple for smart video, WD Red for NAS, WD Blue for PC productivity, and WD_BLACK for gaming.

While WD focuses on the mechanical HDD side of the business, the high-performance flash storage formerly known as WD_BLACK and WD Blue has transitioned to the independent SanDisk company.

As part of a major 2026 rebranding at CES, these iconic lines have been reimagined as the SanDisk Optimus family. Gamers looking for the successor to the WD_BLACK SN7100 will now find it as the Optimus GX 7100, while the top-tier professional and enthusiast drives (formerly the SN8100 and SN850X) are now known as Optimus GX PRO. This move streamlines the SanDisk flash portfolio, separating gaming-centric SSDs from the HDD-based G-DRIVE creative solutions.
