Jabra has expanded its frontline retail portfolio with the launch of the Jabra Perform 55 headset and Jabra Perform Plus, a cloud-based platform designed to give retailers centralised control over shared headset fleets across multiple locations.

The combination targets a familiar retail problem from two directions. Store associates need fast access to colleagues and information without stepping away from customers, while IT and operations teams need a practical way to deploy, configure, update and secure growing numbers of shared devices.

Jabra says 88% of store associates report challenges getting timely assistance or information, while 90% believe the right technology helps them complete tasks faster. Separate industry research cited by Jabra also found 81% of frontline workers experience device or app problems that prevent them working at least once a month.

Jabra Perform 55 brings hands-free communication to the shop floor

The Jabra Perform 55 is an over-the-head retail headset designed around push-to-talk and voice-led workflows.

Jabra says its microphones block 99% of background noise, which should be particularly useful in noisy retail environments where staff are communicating from shop floors, stock rooms or service counters.

The headset works with platforms including Zebra Workcloud Sync, Zello and Zoom, allowing retailers to integrate it into existing communication systems rather than deploying a completely separate workflow.

Battery life is rated at up to 20 hours of talk time or 50 hours of push-to-talk use. A 10-minute fast charge can provide up to 10 hours of talk time or 25 hours of push-to-talk operation.

Jabra has also included its Face2Face mode, which automatically mutes calls and audio when the boom microphone is raised. That allows staff to move quickly between headset communication and direct conversations with customers.

The Perform 55 carries an IP54 rating for protection against dust and spills and supports one-touch pairing with Android devices.

Jabra says the headset is also TCO Certified, Generation 10, with replaceable batteries and ear cushions, firmware update support and recyclable packaging.

Perform Plus gives IT centralised control

The other half of the announcement is Jabra Perform Plus, a cloud-based management platform for headset fleets.

Rather than configuring devices individually at each store, Perform Plus lets IT and operations teams remotely deploy, configure, secure, update and monitor compatible Jabra Perform headsets from a central interface.

The platform includes firmware management and rollback, compliance checks, role-based access controls, audit trails and real-time reporting on device performance.

It also supports single sign-on and APIs, allowing retailers to integrate headset management into existing IT systems and workflows.

A companion Jabra Perform Plus Mobile App provides additional support for headset pairing and use when required.

Perform Plus will initially support the Jabra Perform 55, with compatibility for additional Perform products planned.

Voice as an interface for retail AI

Jabra is also positioning the new platform as groundwork for future voice-driven AI tools in retail.

According to early findings from upcoming Jabra research, 96% of retailers expect their AI investment to increase, while 71% expect voice AI to be deployed at scale within two years.

That makes the combination of a centrally managed headset platform and always-available voice interface potentially more significant than conventional push-to-talk communications alone.

Future applications could include voice access to store information, inventory systems, task management tools and other AI-assisted workflows, although Jabra has not yet detailed specific AI features for Perform Plus.

“Retailers are under pressure to keep store associates connected while making growing technology deployments easier for IT to manage across locations,” said Andrew Doyle, VP for Frontline Solutions at Jabra.

“With Jabra Perform Plus and Jabra Perform 55, we are bringing together the retail communication endpoint and platform behind it for scalable, voice-led store communication.”

Five-headset charging for shared environments

Jabra is also launching the Perform 5-Bay Universal Charging Base, designed for stores where headsets are shared between employees across multiple shifts.

The dock can charge and organise five compatible Jabra Perform headsets simultaneously, with a click-in, click-out design intended to simplify device handovers between staff.
