Microsoft has introduced their latest Surface devices, the Surface Laptop (8th Edition) and Surface Pro (12th Edition).
Both units are powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon X2 processors and designed to deliver stronger AI performance, longer battery life, and enhanced productivity experiences for Windows users.
The new devices continue Microsoft’s push into AI-powered computing, combining dedicated neural processing units capable of 80 TOPS with Windows 11 and Copilot+ PC experiences. Microsoft says the new Surface lineup is designed to handle AI workloads both locally and in the cloud, allowing users to access advanced AI features while maintaining responsiveness and efficiency.
Surface Laptop gets major performance upgrade
Available in 13.8-inch and 15-inch models, the latest Surface Laptop retains the premium design language that has defined the series while introducing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus and Snapdragon X2 Elite processors. Configurations offer up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory and up to 2TB of removable SSD storage.
Microsoft is positioning the device as an all-day productivity machine, claiming up to 20 hours of local video playback on the 13.8-inch model and up to 19 hours on the 15-inch version. The company says the new systems deliver faster performance while maintaining the thin-and-light portability that Surface Laptop users expect.
Display improvements are also a key focus. The 15-inch model now features a 3270 x 2180 PixelSense Flow display with 262 PPI, making it the sharpest display ever offered on a Surface Laptop. Both models support up to 120Hz refresh rates, HDR, Dolby Vision IQ, and peak brightness of up to 600 nits.
Microsoft is also introducing a new Jade colour option alongside Platinum, Black and Dune finishes on select configurations.
Surface Pro doubles down on versatility
The new Surface Pro continues Microsoft’s vision of a device that bridges the gap between laptop and tablet. Powered by the same Snapdragon X2 platform, Microsoft describes the 12th Edition Surface Pro as its fastest Surface Pro to date.
The 13-inch device offers both LCD and OLED display options, with the OLED model delivering a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and up to 900 nits of HDR brightness. Both displays support 120Hz refresh rates and maintain the signature 3:2 aspect ratio favored by productivity users.
Designed around flexibility, the Surface Pro includes Microsoft’s integrated kickstand and supports the Surface Slim Pen alongside the Surface Pro Flex Keyboard. Users can transition seamlessly between tablet, laptop and creative workflows, whether taking notes, sketching, presenting or multitasking.
Battery life is rated at up to 15.5 hours of local video playback and 11.5 hours of active web usage, while a new 1440p Quad HD front-facing camera and 10MP rear camera enhance video conferencing and content creation capabilities.
Built for the AI PC era
Both devices feature Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU delivering 80 TOPS of AI performance, enabling on-device AI experiences without relying entirely on cloud processing. Microsoft says the architecture allows AI features to run locally for improved privacy and responsiveness while still taking advantage of cloud resources when additional computing power is required.
Security remains a central focus across the lineup. The new Surface devices ship as Windows 11 Secured-core PCs and include Microsoft Pluton security processors, TPM 2.0, Windows Hello facial authentication, Smart App Control, and Microsoft Defender integration.
Sustainability improvements continue
Microsoft is also highlighting sustainability gains across the Surface family. The new Surface Laptop incorporates 64% recycled enclosure content, while the Surface Pro features 86% recycled enclosure content. Both products use 100% recycled aluminium alloys, recycled rare earth metals, and fibre-based packaging with high recycled content.
The devices are ENERGY STAR certified, intended to achieve EPEAT Gold registration, and are designed with self-repair and serviceability in mind through replacement parts and repair documentation.
With Snapdragon X2 performance, expanded AI capabilities, improved battery life and Microsoft’s continued focus on premium hardware design, the latest Surface Laptop and Surface Pro represent Microsoft’s strongest push yet into the next generation of AI-powered Windows PCs.
