The robot vacuum is growing up — and leaving the house

MOVA is sending its robots beyond the living room, unveiling its biggest Australian product expansion yet with more than 20 new products spanning the home, garden, pool, windows, kitchen, personal care and pet care.

It’s a significant expansion for a brand that only entered Australia in May 2025, but the sheer number of products isn’t the most interesting part of the announcement.

It’s where MOVA expects its robots to work next.

For years, the robot vacuum has been learning how to understand our homes. It learned to map rooms, recognise furniture, avoid cables and shoes, work around pets and, eventually, find its own way back to a dock where it could empty itself, wash its mop and get ready to do it all again.

MOVA’s latest range takes that same pursuit of autonomy and pushes it into progressively more difficult environments.

Leading the Australian launch are three flagship robots: the V70 Ultra Complete robot vacuum, LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD robotic lawn mower and Rover X10 robotic pool cleaner.

Floor, lawn, pool.

Each presents MOVA with a different problem to solve.

Even the floor isn’t solved yet

Robot vacuums are a mature category by smart-home standards, but anyone who has lived with one knows there’s still plenty that can bring them unstuck.

Thresholds, corners, low furniture and objects left on the floor can quickly expose the difference between an impressive demonstration and a robot you can actually trust to get on with the job.

MOVA’s new V70 Ultra Complete attacks several of those problems.

Its MaxiReachX system can extend the mopping plates by 17cm and side brush by 12cm to reach into corners, edges and beneath low-clearance furniture.

MOVA claims 42,000Pa of suction, while its StepMaster 2.0 system is designed to cross obstacles up to 9cm high. The robot can also recognise more than 300 types of objects.

There’s an EcoCyclone bagless dust system too, removing the need for disposable dust bags in the dock.

The specifications are impressive, but the more interesting part is what they’re trying to achieve.

Robot vacuums don’t necessarily need another headline number. They need fewer situations where a human has to intervene.

Reaching the bit under the sofa, getting over a difficult threshold or navigating around something unexpected may sound mundane compared with AI and 3D mapping, but those small failures are often what determine whether automation actually saves time.

Outside, the rules change

Move a robot onto the lawn and the environment becomes considerably less cooperative.

There are no convenient walls defining a room. Terrain changes. Gardens have slopes, trees, paths, furniture, toys and any number of things that weren’t there yesterday.

MOVA’s new lawn-mowing range starts with the ViAX 300, designed for smaller suburban lawns and using UltraEyes AI dual-vision technology to navigate without perimeter wires or RTK infrastructure.

At the other end is the flagship LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD.

It combines 360-degree 3D LiDAR with AI vision and all-wheel drive, with MOVA claiming it can handle slopes of up to 80 per cent and obstacles up to 6cm.

There’s app-based scheduling, multi-zone control and precision edge trimming, but again, the important development isn’t simply another collection of features.

It’s perception.

For autonomous robots to move beyond relatively controlled indoor environments, they need to become much better at understanding where they are and what is happening around them without requiring us to engineer the environment first.

Removing perimeter wires is a good example. Installing a boundary wire doesn’t make a robotic mower less useful, but it does mean the garden has effectively been modified for the robot.

A machine capable of understanding the space for itself changes that relationship.

Then throw it in the pool

If the lawn makes navigation more difficult, the pool introduces another problem entirely.

Water.

The MOVA Rover X10 is designed to clean the surface, floor, walls, waterline, steps, corners and shallow areas of a pool through what MOVA calls its 7-in-1 OMNI Pool Cleaning System.

It uses FloatDrive, EdgeDrive, 360-degree AquaScan and PoolNavi technologies to navigate the pool.

Those names will mean relatively little to most people.

AquaSonar is more interesting.

MOVA’s system uses a remote-controlled floating unit to maintain a Wi-Fi-powered ultrasound connection with the Rover X10 underwater, allowing real-time communication and app control while the robot is submerged.

That’s attempting to solve a problem that’s easy to understand even if you know nothing about robotic pool cleaners: wireless communication gets considerably more complicated once you put the device underwater.

We’ve become accustomed to opening an app and immediately seeing what a connected device is doing. Maintaining that sort of relationship with a robot moving around at the bottom of a swimming pool is another matter.

If AquaSonar delivers that connection reliably in real-world pools, it could be one of the more meaningful technologies in MOVA’s new range.

The robot’s territory is expanding

MOVA’s launch goes much further than these three machines.

The company is also expanding into window cleaning, smart pet care, personal care and other lifestyle categories, including the Fresh 20 Vision AI electric toothbrush, Aero C and Master 10 hair-care products and NutriPal 10 Ultra smart pet feeder.

MOVA describes the strategy as “One Home. One MOVA.”

“Whether it is mowing the lawn, cleaning the pool, reaching the dust under a sofa, looking after a pet or getting ready in the morning, our ambition is to remove challenges from everyday routines,” MOVA ANZ Country Manager Nancy Zhang said.

There’s inevitably a big ecosystem play behind that statement.

But the robotics side of the announcement points to something broader than one company’s product portfolio.

The environments we’re asking autonomous machines to understand are becoming progressively more complicated.

And as that happens, raw power becomes only one part of the equation. A robot also needs to understand its surroundings, adapt when those surroundings change and complete its task without constantly asking its owner for help.

I’ve written before about technology becoming most valuable when it stops demanding our attention. Home robotics may be one of the clearest examples of that idea.

A robot doesn’t really save you from a household job if you’ve simply replaced doing the job yourself with supervising a machine doing it.

That’s why some of the less glamorous advances in this new generation of robots may ultimately matter more than the headline specifications: crossing the threshold, recognising the obstacle, finding the edge of the lawn or maintaining communication beneath the water.

The robot vacuum spent years learning how to live inside our homes.

MOVA is betting that the next generation can understand the rest of them.
