Even if you have only loosely followed the mobile device scene, you may have come across names such as Nothing and One Plus. What these two brands have in common is one Carl Pei.
For me, the design language of Nothing phones was an immediate attention grabber. Rather than your standard monolithic slabs, Nothing came out of the starting block with the “Glyph Interface”. It is not like a “teardown” where everything is shown. It a very deliberate approach to meld function and form, to bring beauty and interest to a space that is generally very boring.
Now on the cusp of launching the third gen of the a series, the Nothing Phone (3a) was unboxed with a helping hand from NEO Gamma, a humanoid robot engineered by Norwegian firm 1x.
The video doesn’t show the nitty gritty beyond the unboxing. But Nothing didn’t disappoint with the design here.
At the same time, Design Director Adam Bates sat down with Nothing’s YouTube team to deep dive into the design process/inspirations plus the rationale of the periscope camera layout on the Phone (3a) Series.
The video is just shy of 11 minutes long, but gives a nice behind the scenes look at the process behind bringing the product to life.
I can’t wait to see the final product and more importantly, how Nothing integrates software and hardware for the end user experience.
The full specifications of the Phone (3a) Series will be revealed on 4 March at 9pm AEDT. The launch video will be hosted on Nothing’s YouTube channel and nothing.tech.
