Synology has expanded its enterprise storage portfolio with the launch of the FS6420 and FS3420 all-flash block and file storage systems, designed specifically for latency-sensitive enterprise environments. The new platforms deliver substantial gains in IOPS and throughput performance for on-premises virtualisation, databases, enterprise applications, and high-bandwidth collaborative workflows.
“More organisations than ever are running demanding on-premises workloads and need storage that can accommodate them,” says Jeffrey Huang, Product Manager at Synology. “The FS6420 and FS3420 deliver substantial IOPS improvements over their predecessors, boosting performance for latency-sensitive workloads. They’re strong options for a wide range of mid-size and large enterprises and colocation environments looking to implement enterprise applications and virtualisation workloads.”
Enterprise-Grade Performance and Reliability for Mission-Critical Workloads
The Synology FS6420 and FS3420 are 24-bay, 2U rack-mounted all-flash systems engineered to deliver exceptional I/O responsiveness and improved operational efficiency for enterprise IT environments.
The FS6420 delivers more than 929,000 read IOPS and 257,000 write IOPS, representing performance gains of 40% and 26% respectively over its predecessor. The FS3420 achieves more than 478,000 read IOPS and 169,000 write IOPS, offering read and write improvements of 21% and 32%.
Both systems also provide more than 60% higher SMB read throughput, enabling faster file access for bandwidth-intensive workloads such as media production, engineering, and large-scale CAD environments.
To support modern enterprise networking requirements, both models include dual built-in 10GbE ports and optional support for 25GbE and Fibre Channel adapters, ensuring compatibility with high-speed network infrastructure deployments.
Reliability remains a core focus of both systems. Redundant power supplies minimise the risk of downtime caused by hardware failure, while integrated 10GbE networking supports failover and load balancing for enhanced service continuity. Out-of-band management capabilities also enable administrators to remotely troubleshoot systems and access logs even when servers are powered down.
Built for Virtualisation, Databases and Data-Intensive Enterprise Applications
Powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the FS6420 and FS3420 integrate seamlessly into enterprise IT ecosystems while providing advanced data management and protection capabilities.
- Broad Platform Compatibility: Both systems are certified for VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix, and OpenStack environments, making them suitable for a wide range of enterprise virtualisation deployments.
- Designed for High-Bandwidth Workflows: The combination of all-flash performance and high-speed networking allows multiple users to simultaneously access large files over SMB or NFS. This makes the systems ideal for video post-production, creative collaboration, engineering workflows, and other data-intensive applications.
- Intelligent Storage Tiering: Synology Tiering dynamically manages data across performance and capacity tiers to maximise storage efficiency. The FS6420 and FS3420 can function as high-performance hot storage tiers while preserving flash resources for critical workloads.
- Integrated Data Protection: Built-in Active Backup for Business enables organisations to back up unlimited virtual machines and physical servers. Snapshot Replication provides near-instant recovery points and granular restoration capabilities at the volume, folder, and file levels to support business continuity and disaster recovery objectives.
Availability in Australia and Global Markets
