Bissell SS1Here’s a mini review for a mini appliance: the Steam Shot from Bissell.

It has a mini price as well – just 105 Aussie bucks but there is a way to get this one for free…

First up: What is the Steam Shot?

One of the best cleaning agents is steam.
If you got persistent grime, scum, baked-on grease on your cooking appliances, gunk in your fridge, you know what I’m talking about.
Hot steam makes it all very easy (and safe!) to clean.
A small, lightweight ( just over 1 kilo) steam cleaner with oodles of accessories to get in the tiniest nooks and crannies makes this annoying scrubbing a thing of the past.

There’s also another bonus aspect of having a Steam Shot: it can be used to remove wrinkles from clothes and “freshen” clothing that has been stored.

Accessories Galore

The Steam Shot includes an accessory nozzle, extension hose, flat scraping tool, grout brush, fabric steamer, window squeegee, angle concentrator, and detail brushes.

And this is how you use these:

• Flat scraping tool for removing wallpaper, gum and extra sticky messes
• Grout brush tool for scrubbing small cracks and crevices
• Fabric steamer tool for refreshing and removing wrinkles on clothing or drapes
• Window squeegee tool for glass and window cleaning
• Detail brush tool for scrubbing stubborn soil

Bissell AccTesting

This unit comes with a very looong power cord. Ideal!

When you put the water in, using the small container, it takes just a couple of minutes to be ready.

First, we did some grout cleaning. They were already reasonably clean from previous scrubbings with bleach (what a stinking stuff that is!) so the difference is not as noticeable but it worked well. I was afraid the hot steam at close quarters would mean you’d have to wear gloves but no, you won’t feel the back spray.

I also tried the extension hose to prevent having to tilt the cleaner into all sort of weird angles. It is recommended to make sure you don’t hold the steamer at more than a 45 degree angle. If it’s tilted too far (and this varies based on how much water is in the tank), the unit can dribble or spray water from the nozzle.
I noticed that with any large nozzle attachments, the steamer will tend to topple forward when you put it down.

Did you see the window squeegee in that accessory list?
I tried this 2-in-1 tool (fabric steamer and squeegee) on some calcium-stained windows. It gets the windows cleaner but in our case it might take a few more tries to get all the calcium off. Even CLR has not been very effective on this window!

We also tried the fabric steamer tool to get wrinkles out of clothing and curtains. This is another application you’ll find handy. In fact, when you’ve played around for half an hour or so you’ll find more and more areas where the Steam Shot can be put to use.

Conclusion

The Bissell Steam Shot (Model #2635F) is a very handy and effective cleaning tool for stubborn stains in hard to reach areas.

Highly recommended at the right price point of $105.
