When I reviewed the TOZO NC20 earlier this year, I came away pleasantly surprised. They delivered far more than I expected for the price, particularly in areas that matter to everyday users: comfort, battery life, noise cancelling and sound quality that simply made music enjoyable without needing an audiophile glossary beside me.
Now TOZO has released the NC20 Pro and, at first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking not much has changed. The earbuds themselves look very familiar. The feature list also seems pretty close to the original NC20. Then you notice the charging case now has a touchscreen on the front and suddenly things get a little more interesting.
Unlike the standard NC20, the Pro version introduces a touchscreen charging case that lets you adjust settings, switch listening modes, check battery levels and control various functions without reaching for your phone. It’s a little like someone looked at earbuds and thought, “What if these also wanted to be a smartwatch?” Surprisingly though, after using them for a while, I found myself actually using the screen more than expected.
What Comes in the Box With the TOZO NC20 Pro?
TOZO keeps things fairly straightforward. Inside the box you get:
- TOZO NC20 Pro earbuds
- Charging case with touchscreen display
- USB-C charging cable
- Multiple ear tip sizes
- User guide
The NC20 Pro comes in several colours including Black, Champagne, Rose Gold and Titanium Gray.
TOZO NC20 Pro Design and Comfort
The original NC20 already had a comfortable design and thankfully TOZO has not tried fixing something that was never broken. The earbuds remain lightweight and sit securely in the ears without creating that familiar pressure feeling some earbuds develop after long listening sessions. Comfort matters because you quickly discover whether earbuds become everyday companions or disappear into a drawer full of forgotten gadgets and old charging cables. I wore the NC20 Pro during my usual ferry trip into work and often forgot they were there. That is generally a good sign.
The touchscreen case is clearly the standout feature. Initially, I assumed it would be one of those features that sounds impressive during a marketing meeting but ends up rarely being used in real life. After a few days though, I started changing ANC settings and checking battery levels directly from the case while waiting for the ferry or when out and about on my walking wanderings. There is something oddly satisfying about controlling your earbuds from a tiny screen. A friend commented that it looked like a futuristic pebble from a sci-fi movie!
The touchscreen also meant I did not have to pull out my phone while balancing my Coke Zero, a bag and maintaining my morning commute survival strategy.
TOZO NC20 Pro Sound Quality and EQ Features
Like the standard NC20, the Pro version is designed for people who simply want music to sound good rather than perfectly analysing every tiny detail of a recording.
The NC20 Pro uses larger drivers and supports higher quality audio options, but speaking as someone who reviews earbuds from an everyday perspective rather than an audiophile one, the important part is this: they sound good.
Bass feels full and punchy without becoming overwhelming. Vocals remain clear and podcasts are easy to follow. Music feels energetic without sounding overly tuned or ‘tinny’. Compared with the NC20, there is a little more polish here. The difference is not dramatic and nobody is suddenly going to hear instruments they never knew existed. It feels more like refinement than reinvention.
My Spotify playlists sounded lively during ferry rides while my podcasts remained crisp and easy to follow while walking on the treadmill. Speaking of treadmill use, the earbuds stayed surprisingly secure. There is always that moment when exercising with earbuds where you wonder if one is about to launch itself across the gym floor and force you into an awkward retrieval mission. Thankfully that never happened.
The TOZO app still offers plenty of EQ adjustments if you enjoy tweaking settings. It adds another layer of customisation to the NC20 Pro experience and is worth downloading to get the most from the earbuds. It gives you access to EQ presets, custom sound adjustments, touch control settings, firmware updates, and battery information, all through a clean and easy-to-navigate interface. Even if you are not someone who usually tweaks audio settings, it is simple enough to use and lets you tailor the sound profile to better suit your listening preferences. I experimented briefly before eventually returning to the defaults because my toxic trait is that I often spend twenty minutes changing sound profiles only to realise the original option was perfectly fine.
Active Noise Cancelling and Everyday Performance
The original NC20 already offered respectable active noise cancelling, especially considering the price. The NC20 Pro feels a little – for want of a better word – more confident.
On my daily commute, background engine noise faded nicely into the distance and general commuter chatter became much easier to ignore. It did not create total silence, but it noticeably softened the world around me. Transparency mode also worked well while walking out and about. I could still hear cars and people around me and remain aware of what was happening near me without removing an earbud. Wind handling also seemed improved. Outdoor walks produced less of that familiar rushing noise that some earbuds create when even a slight breeze appears.
TOZO NC20 Pro Call Quality
Call quality feels like one of the more noticeable improvements over the NC20.
Earbuds increasingly need to do everything now. Music, calls, meetings, podcasts and occasionally helping us pretend we cannot hear someone trying to hand out flyers in shopping centres. The NC20 Pro handled calls surprisingly well. Voice clarity sounded natural and I could hear people on the other end consistently clearly. Even while standing at ferry terminals or walking outdoors, background sounds remained controlled without my voice getting buried underneath traffic noise or wind. No earbuds completely eliminate noisy surroundings, but these did a very respectable job.
Battery Life and Wireless Charging
Battery life was already one of the NC20’s strengths and the NC20 Pro continues that trend. I reached the point where I stopped thinking about battery percentages altogether, which is usually one of the best compliments I can give any portable device. Even with regular ANC use on my daily commuting, they simply kept going. Wireless charging of the buds within their case also remains onboard, which I always appreciate because I continue pretending I will eventually become better at remembering to bring the charging cable.
TOZO NC20 Pro Review Verdict
The TOZO NC20 Pro feels less like a complete redesign and more like a smarter, more polished evolution of earbuds I already enjoyed. If you already own the NC20, upgrading is probably not essential. The overall experience remains quite similar. But if you are buying fresh, the touchscreen case, improved call quality and subtle refinements make the NC20 Pro a genuinely appealing option.
I originally thought the little screen felt like a gimmick.
Then a week later I realised I was using it every day.
That is usually the point where gimmicks quietly become features.
With thanks to Tozo for letting me experience the NC20 Pro. You can get a pair on Amazon for a limited time deal of $84.99 here (RRP A$A99).
