It’s the season for multi-port wall chargers, and today it is the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 4-Port GaN Wall Charger 140W.
Belkin BoostCharge Pro 4-Port GaN Wall Charger 140W Overview
As the name says, it’s a GaN wall charger with a maximum output of 140W across the four ports.
It is an all white affair, matte plastic and totally resistant to fingerprints. Yes I tried, it won’t stick.
On the slim side is a row of ports, with the power distribution as follows:
| Port | Max Output (W) | Combined Output (W) | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB-C (1) | 140 | 65 | PD 3.1 |
| USB-C (2) | 65 | 45 | PD 3.1 |
| USB-C (3) | 65 | 20 | PD 3.1 |
| USB-A | 12 |
Real-World Performance and Charging Experience
First things first, if you are intending to max out the BoostCharge’s capacity, make sure you have the right cables.
In other words if you are intending to charge a MacBook Pro 16″, don’t cheap out on the cable. Get one that is designed to handle the load. This little charger can deliver a half charge to that in just 30 minutes, but not if it melts your cable.
The good news is, Belkin have those available too, In 140W and 240W variants, so there is no excuse for not doing it right.
The key advantage the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 4-Port GaN Wall Charger 140W, aside from the max output, is that it can comfortably support two ultrabooks both concurrently drawing 65W. This ensures your OS won’t scream at you about an under supply of power and resulting in slow charging.
On top of that, you can still give your phone a nice top up.
Travel Features, Build Quality and Sustainability
Belkin has provided a really decent carry pouch to keep the charger in.
They have also provided interchangeable plugs to make it simple if you are a frequent traveller.
Lastly, the charger is made with recycled plastic products and comes in 100% plastic free packaging.
Should You Buy the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 140W Charger?
Does it make sense to get a Belkin BoostCharge Pro 4-Port GaN Wall Charger 140W?
If you are needing power to devices, without having to worry about hitting power limits, this is a pretty sweet deal. It will cater for everything up a MacBook Pro 16″.
If you are punching above that with mobile workstations and gaming laptops, which are generally in the range of 180W – 330W+, that is well outside the capability of this unit. In fact it is well outside the capability of most GaN chargers.
The only complain I have is the lack of indicator lights to show that it is doing anything.
The Belkin BoostCharge Pro 4-Port GaN Wall Charger 140W has a RRP of A$189.99, but is currently on discount for $141.45 on Amazon Au. It’s a great little gear to grab in time for EoFY and tax deductions.
The Belkin 2-in-1 USB C to USB C Cable 140W Braided Dual Charging Cable is on sale for A$29.60 (RRP $39.95).
The Belkin Eco Braided USB-C to USB-C Cable (2M, 240W) is on sale for A$21.49 (RRP $29.95).
Hop to it!
