Travel Around the World in 180 Days with the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush

Well, that’s how long the charge should last on this latest product from Oclean.

Obviously, we did not test it out for that length of time, but long enough to give our first impressions.

When I say “our”, it is actually the opinion of my wife as the unit came with only 1 brush head.
And she loves electric toothbrushes.

Me, not so much.

So let me write about the tech side of things and interview Mrs R on actually using the Oclean Flow Sonic.

First Thoughts: Unboxing the Oclean Flow Sonic

A nicely designed unit materialised out of the box.

The matte white unit has some subtle darker decorations and a shiny Manufacturer’s sticker that didn’t enhance the aesthetics.
It felt slightly slippery.

Cycling through the 5 modes lit up the different symbols used.
The symbols don’t make it very clear what Mode it is, so you must consult the manual.

From top to bottom there’s a Morning and Night mode, a Cleaning mode, a Whitening and Soft mode.

Talking about the Manual: it’s in 30 (!) languages – including Estonian, but no Dutch – and literally 100 pages thick.
The tiny and faint printing makes it very hard to read…

The box came with a charge cable, so we gave it a quick charge and fitted the brush head.

Second Thoughts: The Sonic Motor and User Experience

I could not help myself.

Even though my missus will have the last word – at least when it comes to her verdict on this electric toothbrush – I had to try it myself as well.

Not sure if it was the 76,000 movements per minute sonic motor, but the vibrations and the fairly high-pitched sound made it a rather unpleasant experience.

I must say I have sensitive teeth, so this is not necessarily gonna be the same experience for other folks.

So, over to Mrs R. who has been using electric toothbrushes for yonks (at least since 2012, looking at my first review of these appliances).

She’s a fan of this teeth cleaning ritual and she would undoubtedly be disposed to a more favourable view.

Alas!

Not knowing what my opinion was, she came to the same conclusion: not for me.

But she also said: I still might take it along when we need to be away from home for a few days.

She did like the looks of it and the great battery life, but the high-pitched vibrations was something she could not easily get used to.

Final Thoughts: Price, Travel, and a Personal Conclusion

Having said all that, we realise that using an electric toothbrush is a very personal experience.

Some people swear by it, and others swear AT it…

Our experience is not necessarily gonna be the same for everyone.
So, if you want to try it, the biggest incentive is the price.

Originally, the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush was priced at $99.95 plus shipping.

Now it is listed at AUD$49.95 on the Oclean website.

For 2 more brush heads you’d have to spend another 30 bucks.
Also, there are plenty of options on Amazon, particularly for the brush heads.

It would be handy if the company would include a slender pouch for the toothbrush since it is eminently fit for travelling.

All in all, the Oclean unit performs well, is light enough to travel with and has plenty of charge to brush the teeth of an alligator twice daily.

So, you should be right with cleaning your ivories with the Oclean Flow Sonic if you’re not sensitive to the high-pitched vibrations.

We thank Oclean for the opportunity to try it out.
