Let me start by saying, as a 48-year-old dad, anything that helps keep the house running smoothly while giving me a bit of time back is a clear winner in my book. The Philips HomeRun 9000 Series promised to do just that, a premium robot vacuum and mop designed for busy families like mine, complete with three very hairy dachshunds, a wife with gorgeous but admittedly troublesome long hair, and a seemingly endless cycle of mess. When you’re staring down weekends filled with mopping and vacuuming, it’s easy to see the appeal of delegating those chores to a robot.
First Impressions
When I unboxed the HomeRun 9000 Series, I’ll admit, I was impressed. It looks sleek and modern, with a slim silver profile that makes it seem less like a gadget and more like something Tesla might have designed. And unlike other gadgets that scream, “I’m here to clean your mess!” this one fits in beautifully with our home décor. Even the size of the cleaning station wasn’t an issue, It’s the kind of thing you don’t mind leaving out because it doesn’t clash with the furniture.
Unboxing and Setup
Unpacking this robot was a straightforward experience, which is saying a lot considering I’ve been known to botch simpler tasks. It came with all the essentials, The robot, dock, manuals and accessories including: additional Dust bags, an extra rolling mop, Brush cleaning tool and a bottle of Phillips Floor Cleaner. Setting it up was just as painless: download the HomeRun app, connect to Wi-Fi, follow the prompts, and let it do its thing. Here’s a good tip, let the HomeRun fully charge before you set it free.
Watching it map the house was like watching a sci-fi movie unfold in my living room. Within minutes, it was scurrying around, learning every corner, nook and cranny.
In Use
This is where the Philips HomeRun 9000 truly earns its stripes. With an impressive 8,000Pa of suction power, yes, you read that right, 8,000Pa it effortlessly handles everything from hardwood and tile floors to thick rugs. And let’s not forget the endless dog hair our three dachshunds seem to shed daily. The wide cleaning path means it zips through your rooms in no time, making quick work of even the largest living spaces. The best part is, it’s smart enough to lift its mop when it detects carpet, so you don’t have to worry about soggy rugs or damp spots. No micromanaging, just clean, dry carpets every time.
Speaking of mopping, the PowerCyclone Aqua system is a real game-changer. Unlike traditional mop pads, this roller system uses fresh water with every pass, trapping dirty water in a separate tank to ensure it cleans instead of just smearing dirt. Whether you’re dealing with sticky spills or everyday dust, the added pressure and coverage make all the difference. Plus, you can customize the cleaning process, adjust the vacuum’s suction, control the mop’s wetness, or decide how many passes you want for a truly tailored clean.
Now, about those dachshunds. Our trio of fur machines can turn any clean floor into a fur-covered battlefield in hours. Before the HomeRun 9000 Series, keeping up with the hair was a relentless task. But now, I wake up to a spotless floor, not a fur tumbleweed in sight. And my wife is in love with it too, the house looks clean all the time, and as any seasoned husband knows, a happy wife really does means a happy life
Hands-Free Maintenance
I haven’t come across anyone that loves constantly fiddling with or emptying a vacuum. Thankfully, the HomeRun 9000 Series’s dock takes care of most of the dirty work. It empties the dustbin, cleans and dries the mop, and even refills its water tank. It’s the kind of maintenance-free setup that dads like me can really get on board with. And if you are required to assist the Homerun will let you know, by app notifications and verbal commands, which you can customise as well.
App Functionality
The HomeRun app is like having a remote control for your cleaning butler. You can schedule cleanings, set no-go zones (dog beds are sacred!), and even check its progress from your phone. It’s handy, intuitive, and keeps me from having to track down the robot if it decides to hide under the couch.
Grievances
Now, as much as I’d like to say this robot is perfect, it’s got a couple of quirks. Mapping took a bit of trial and error in our house—long hallways and lots of doors seemed to throw it off initially. Also, as much as the anti-tangle brush tries, my wife’s beautiful long hair still manages to clog things up occasionally. (Of course, I’d never mention that to her!) Lastly, it’s had a couple of moments where it seemed to “Sleep” mid-clean. But hey, even robots need a break, right?
Conclusion
The Philips HomeRun 9000 Series has been a game-changer for our family and has earned its spot in our home. Sure, it’s got a price tag of $1698, but when I think about all the time I’ve saved, and that amazing feeling I get waking up to a clean house every day, it feels like a worthwhile investment. If you’re tired of spending your weekends cleaning or constantly battling pet hair, this robot might just be the little hero you need. It has a RRP of A$2,499 but at time of publish it is 32% off at A$1698 on Amazon Au.
A big Thank You to our friends out there at Philips for pushing the boundaries of home cleaning technology and making this dad’s life a little easier.
