Disclaimer: Yes, we bought into the Hue ecosystem, meaning that just like Lego we want to have all the bits and pieces that Philips/Signify/Hue bring to the market.

In every colour. In every shape.

Today we look at the PLAY component. 16 million colours in a svelte, black unit that can sit unobtrusively behind your television or game monitor, casting a soothing backlight or vivid auroras of light that match what’s on your screen or sync with your music.

Read more: Calming Blanket - The Grasshopper Lies HeavyAbout a month ago I wrote a review on Glow Dreaming, a device that is designed to be sleeping aid for children.

My oldest boy Master L has always taken a while to fall asleep for one reason or another, and I have really been wanting to try a weighted blanket to see if it will help.

The folks over at Calming Blankets kindly tossed a discount code my way.

How did it work for my son?

Voltaire Smart Grinder - Quest to waking up to freshly ground coffee

Written by Kevin Cheng on . Posted in Miscellaneous

Read more: Voltaire Smart Grinder - Quest to waking up to freshly ground coffeeThe Voltaire Smart Grinder was a Kickstarter project by Get It Right with a lofty project statement. "Making fresh coffee is as much an art as it is a science. And truly awesome coffee starts with two things: fresh beans and a great grinder. We've taken these two critical elements - fresh beans and consistent grind - and combined them into one amazing machine: Voltaire."

The Voltaire Grinder can be paired with an airtight container (for storage of grounded coffee). Both the grinder and container can become "smart" with the addition of a sensing platform that is design to keep track of how fresh the coffee beans are, and how much there is left in the hopper or past their prime and re-order on your behalf.

So, how did we go?

Glow Dreaming - Sleep tight little ones

Written by Kevin Cheng on . Posted in Miscellaneous

Read more: Glow Dreaming - Sleep tight little onesWe have all heard horror stories about babies and children that won't fall asleep, or waking every hour, needed to be held, hugged, breastfed, walked around, rocked in order to etch out a little more zzz. I certainly know how it feels night after night after night, resettling my boys every hour or two, trying to get them to stay asleep and allow me to put them down so I can snatch a few precious minutes myself before my day starts.

Glow Dreaming claims to help children struggling with separation anxiety, self-settling, night terrors, teething, transitioning, delayed sleep, dream feeding, multiple wakes, days sleeps and co sleeping.

Well, I have children at different stages of life, so I took the plunge and bought one.

And of course I just had to share my experience with our DigitalReview readers.

The humble light bulb has undergone a dramatic series of changes in the last decade or so. Incandescents are out, so are fluros and CFL. Even just LED lights are humdrum items. In are the smart lights that can illuminate your indoor and outdoor world in 16 million colours.

Philips just launched a couple of outdoor units, the Lily spotlight and the Calla bollard. Both work in the Hue ecosystem.

We’re shining some light on them in this review.

Anson Belt - the perfectly fitted belt for all sized meals

Read more: Anson Belt - the perfectly fitted belt for all sized mealsNot every gadget runs on power, and the humble belt has seen some reinvention for the "modern" age.

Anson Belt was kind enough to send me one of their "belts without holes" set to review.

Writing an article about belts for me would be a travesty if I don't include a little background. I have a love hate relationship with belts, generally more hate than love although there was a period of peace and prosperity.

Read more: Gryphon Connect Smart Router for Family SafetyI first came across Gryphon Connect Smart Router when it was still a Kickstarter campaign. The gestation period for it to become a shipping product took a while but it did arrive in my eager hands about 12 months ago. It has been undergoing an extended live test since.

How often do parents check up on their newborns? Most new parents want to be able to check on how bub is doing without disturbing their sleep – or interrupting their own to see if their baby is still sound asleep.

Fortunately, technology can come to the rescue in a very unobtrusive way via the Owlet Smart Sock, a baby monitor that tracks heart rate and oxygen levels constantly and let you know if anything is amiss.

Let’s hear from Karma, one of our writers whose son Asher was born 6 weeks ago.
