We’re well into the age of robots doing our chores, so I figured it was time to introduce a little automation into my cleaning routine. For a while, I’ve been tempted to splurge on a robot vacuum that can handle both vacuuming and mopping. But I’ve held back, worrying that I’d drop all that cash only to be disappointed. So instead of diving into the deep end, I decided to start with something more affordable, the Ecovacs Deebot Neo 2.0 to see if these robot vacs are really worth or if they’re just another gimmicky gadget for the home.

First Impressions

Right out of the box, the Deebot Neo 2.0 looks sleek and modern, like it’s ready to get down to business. It’s definitely got that high-tech vibe going for it. Other than attaching the sweeping arm with a single screw and removing a bit of packing tape, there’s really nothing else to do, it’s ready to go right out of the box.

Setup

Setting it up was surprisingly simple. Download the ECOVACS app, scan the barcode on the Deebot, connect it to your Wi-Fi, and you’re good to go. Here’s a tip for the impatient folks like me, let it fully charge before you send it off on its first cleaning. I rushed it a bit, and the mapping didn’t complete on the first go, so I had to reset and start over to get a full map of the house.

In Use

Once the Deebot does its initial clean, it maps your whole house—as long as you’ve picked up any clutter beforehand. After that, you can customize your cleaning schedule, even setting it to clean certain rooms on specific days. In our house, we’ve got three furry friends that leave behind a lot of hair, so vacuuming is pretty much a daily necessity. I’ve got it set to handle the high-traffic areas at night, and I have to say, it’s pretty nice waking up to clean floors.

When it comes to picking up pet hair, dirt, and dust, the Deebot does an impressive job. It even has a 3-arm brush that sweeps dirt from the edges of the walls. The mop pad did better than I expected too. It only uses water in the reservoir, so while it won’t replace your weekly deep clean, it’s like giving your floors a quick wipe-down. You know it’s not totally clean, but it definitely does looks fresh enough.

The Deebot navigates obstacles fairly well, even if it occasionally looks a little clumsy bumping into things before moving on. I tried to throw some challenges at it chairs, dog bowls, you name it, but it maneuvered through like a champ. With a 20mm clearance, it doesn’t wet the carpets when mopping, which is handy, though I did notice it got caught on our door mat a couple of times. The good news? You can set virtual barriers to avoid problem areas, so no worries about unsupervised night mopping. And you can really tell it’s doing its job, those fresh track marks on the carpet are a dead giveaway that the room’s been thoroughly cleaned.

Features

This little guy packs a punch with 5,000Pa of suction power, more than enough to tackle pet hair and dirt. Even with all that suction, it’s got 180 minutes of cleaning time thanks to its hefty 5,200mAh battery. The ultrasonic sensors recognize when it’s on carpet to avoid soaking them, and it automatically boosts suction for a deeper clean on those surfaces.

With the ECOVAC App, let’s you take full control of where and when you want it to clean, and you can even track the exact path it followed with each pass over your floors.

And if it starts running low on battery,  No problem. It takes itself back to the dock, recharges, and then picks up right where it left off.

Gripes

Having to empty the dustbin daily can be a little annoying, especially if you’ve scheduled regular cleanings. So, you’ve gotta stay on top of that. Other than that very little to gripe about.

Conclusion

All in all, the Deebot Neo 2.0 does a fantastic job for the price. At $349, it’s a steal and practically pays for itself in a few weeks. While it’s not a perfect solution, it’s definitely better than wasting hours each week sweeping & mopping. If you want to snag one, the Deebot Neo 2.0 will be available as part of ALDI’s Special Buys starting September 7th while stocks last.

Big thanks to our friends at Ecovacs for a great product at a ridiculously affordable price. Can’t wait to try what you guys come out with next!
