My Impressions & Hands-On Experience
Unboxing & Design
From the moment I lifted the lid, this machine made a statement. The rich black and deep navy in the packaging looked stunning, and the laptop buried within, wrapped in a soft cloth sleeve, immediately gave premium boutique vibes.
The finish is smooth, the body has a satisfying weight without feeling heavy, and the keyboard is large, flat and silky to touch. Everything about it says minimalist luxury, or as my internal monologue said: “ooh, bougie.”
That said, if you’re obsessively clean, know this: the external laptop surface does show fingerprints easily. Mine proudly displayed the evidence of my enthusiasm within minutes.
What else was in the box I hear you ask? The USB-C power adapter/charger. Unfortunately no stylus or optional accessories.
Build & Form Factor
The minimalist aesthetic works beautifully. The 360° hinge makes switching modes seamless and I found myself moving easily between laptop mode for typing, tablet for browsing and tent mode for movies and beer breaks (all in the name of research of course).
In tablet mode, I used the touchscreen which was responsive and smooth. Having the on-screen keyboard available made it genuinely easy to use without needing to flip back to traditional typing which is great when you’re working in tighter spaces or on the go.
The ports are surprisingly generous for such a slim design. and the magnetic pen attachment area is a thoughtful addition (I used my existing stylus). The overall build feels solid and reliable without being heavy.
Screen clarity and colour were strong for everyday productivity and streaming. I’m not testing this with lab equipment, but visually it felt crisp and immersive.
AI Features, Interface & Experience
Setup was effortless as you’d hope. Plug in, power on, walk through wifi + login + privacy settings and you’re in. Windows 11 Copilot is embedded and instantly usable, and I genuinely enjoyed experimenting with AI-assisted features like:
- Hover actions to highlight, blur, erase or search information instantly
- Live captions for video and audio content
- Presence sensing which wakes when you approach and sleeps when you leave (yes, I tried to sneak up on it)
- Studio Effects that clean up video calls (lighting, filters, background blur – was fun while on work teams calls)
I even got Copilot to design an AI avatar version of me, which was both unsettling and impressive.
While I did not try it, there is an option for Face recognition login. Some upcoming promised features like ‘Recall’ which let’s you search back though things you have already done are not yet fully deployed, so I’m interested to see how they evolve.
I may not have divulged my age when asking co-pilot to produce this.
Another feature I really appreciated was how seamlessly the laptop integrates with your phone whether you’re using Android or iPhone. You can connect your device and access messages, calls and photos directly from the PC, which makes multitasking so much easier. It also came with access to Free PC Games, EA Play and the ability to connect to your Xbox account, which is a fun bonus if you like gaming in your downtime. And for some who may be wondering, it has both front and rear cameras, and they worked well for video calls and scanning.
Probably the features I enjoyed most (strangely) were the Do Not Disturb and Focus features. You can set a timer to work without interruptions, get a gentle alert when your focused session is finished, and even add tasks into your focus window, which helps keep you accountable and on track.
Accessibility is also thoughtfully covered. Live Captions, Magnifier, Narrator, Voice Access, On-Screen Keyboard, and other tools are well designed to support different needs. It’s great to see these features built straight into the system rather than hidden behind settings menus.
Personalisation & Customisation
One of the things I really enjoyed was how easy it was to make the PC feel uniquely mine. I was able to customise web browser tab colours and themes (yes, I chose “Bubblegum” as my tab colour — don’t judge), and switch between different languages for captions and translations. The range of personalisation tools made the experience feel far more flexible and tailored than your average laptop.

Bubblegum tabs for maximum vibe. Productivity, but make it cute.
Performance & Everyday Use
In day to day use performance remained smooth and stable while multitasking across documents, spreadsheets, email, streaming, calls and browser tabs. The keyboard was beautiful to type on and the trackpad felt accurate and responsive.
I did not test the laptop under intense gaming loads or heavy professional creative workloads like video rendering or 3D modelling. That’s not my thing. While I didn’t stress-test it myself, I researched others who did, and they advise the device:
- May struggle with graphics-heavy gaming
- Can run warm during long, intensive workloads
- May have reduced battery life when pushing the laptop to its maximum performance capacity, or after sustained streaming at maximum display brightness
So if gaming or heavy creative workloads are your thing, I’d recommend digging into benchmark reviews or testing it yourself to make sure it’s the right fit.
Battery Life
For realistic productivity use, battery life was good. I comfortably got through a full workday without thinking about the charger.
My verdict: great battery for normal humans, but your mileage may vary if you push it hard.
Balanced Take — Not Just the Positives
So yes, I’m optimistic but not blindly so. The OmniBook X Flip 14 isn’t a perfect laptop for every user. Here’s the honest breakdown:
What I Loved
- Stunning premium look and feel
- Flexible convertible form factor
- AI tools that are genuinely useful, not gimmicky
- Strong everyday performance
- Excellent port range (no dongle warfare)
- Seamless setup and login experience
- Great battery for daily productivity needs
What Could Be Better
- Fingerprint magnet finish
- Not ideal for heavy gaming or high-intensity creative workloads
- AI feature value varies depending on use case
The HP OmniBook X Flip 14 is a stylish, flexible, thoughtfully designed laptop that genuinely enhances productivity and modern workflow, especially if you appreciate both aesthetics and function. It handles real-world tasks extremely well, and the convertible modes make it surprisingly fun to use.
It’s not flawless, and it won’t be the perfect machine for every user. However for professionals, students and creators looking for a premium 2-in-1 with real AI capability and strong everyday usability, the OmniBook X Flip 14 is absolutely worth serious consideration.
A huge thank you to HP for providing the OmniBook X Flip 14 for review.
