The Logitech G305 Lightspeed gaming mouse has managed to remain a mainstay in the gaming mouse market for the better part of a decade now, thanks largely to three reasons: its accessible price, removable AA batteries, and the sizable DIY community dedicated to modding the G305 (the Logitech G brand name has helped, too). But it’s no secret that the competition, mainly from Chinese brands, have long surpassed the performance of the G305, even at the same price point or lower – this is where Logitech G’s newest G305 X SUPERLIGHT comes into play, retaining the iconic egg shape but bringing it up to 2026 spec with a reduced 60g weight, HERO 44K sensor and USB-C charging.
Logitech G305 X SUPERLIGHT Unboxing
Logitech G has kept it simple this time around. In the box, you’ll find the mouse itself, wireless dongle, a USB-A to USB-C cable and documentation. Grip tape and spare skates would have been a nice touch, but, to be fair, the G305 has never been positioned as Logitech G’s most hardcore offering for the sweatiest of gamers – maybe next time. On Logitech G’s website, the G305 X SUPERLIGHT is unfortunately only available in two colours; black or white. One can find the funner lilac colourway on Logitech G’s Amazon AU storefront, but no sign of the blue or mint colourways this time around.
Design, Comfort & Build Quality
The G305 X SUPERLIGHT is still a G305, featuring an all-plastic design with the same symmetrical, slightly bulbous shape that sits in my hand almost exactly the same as the original. Justin and I have both daily-driven the original G305 (albeit Justin has modified his with silent switches and a metal scroll wheel) for almost five years now; we did notice the shell is less creaky, and has a rougher surface texture than the original. Users on r/MouseReview have differing opinions on this; some like the raw grip it offers, while others feel it is a step down from the smoother finish on the original and Logitech’s premium line. We feel it’s a bit of both on this one.
Logitech G has also opted to include a strip of LIGHTSYNC RGB beneath a fluted plastic panel on top, an interesting aesthetic we don’t see too often. While I’m usually not one for flashy lighting, I did appreciate the practical side of it: the diffuse glow doubles as an instant visual indicator for charging status, so you can tell at a glance from across the desk when it’s topped up. The two side buttons and DPI switch make another appearance, but you’ll also find the connectivity switch and power toggle on the bottom of the mouse.
The G305 X SUPERLIGHT aims to bring the G305 name up to speed (literally) with today’s gaming mice; Logitech G has shaved off 40 grams of weight to bring the X SUPERLIGHT to 59 grams. The weight is noticeably better distributed across the mouse, whereas the original felt back-heavy due to the AA battery. It’s still on the smaller side of gaming mice, but arguably even more comfortable now due to the weight savings; I never had issues using my old G305 for extended periods of time, but if your hands are on the larger side you may want to look elsewhere.
Turning the mouse over, the stock skates are decent, but nothing to write home about. They are rather small, and lack the butter-smooth glide of the stock feet on my SUPERLIGHT 2c, and they certainly don’t match the aftermarket dots or skates on my other mice. Out of the box, they also produce a fair bit of surface noise on mousepads – though to be fair, they might quiet down once they properly break in.
A key point we want to make here is that the G305 X SUPERLIGHT isn’t trying to contend with the rest of Logitech G’s SUPERLIGHT lineup or other ultra-light mice. The X SUPERLIGHT could have easily been a 45-50 gram mouse if they ditched the RGB lighting and used a smaller battery, but this isn’t a mouse aimed at the ultra-competitive scene. Logitech G has instead chosen to target the wider gaming audience and existing G305 owners who probably don’t prioritise an ultra-lightweight design, but would appreciate extras such as longer battery life and RGB lighting. Whether this then actually deserves the SUPERLIGHT namesake or not is a story for another day.
Gaming Performance & HERO 44K Sensor
The G305 X SUPERLIGHT uses a HERO 44K sensor, similar in specifications to Logitech G’s flagship HERO 2 sensor. The mouse will report at up to an 8 kHz report rate with the PRO Wireless Receiver (sold separately). There’s honestly not much to say about the sensor; we both had a go with the mouse for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Early Access Beta a few weeks back, and had a plenty good time with zero tracking issues.
Even after several hours of use, the X SUPERLIGHT remains comfortable in hand and I found myself slowly getting back into the groove of using the rounder design. The bulk of the mouse does sit towards the back of the hand, so if you’re someone with a fingertip grip style, this may take some getting used to. You definitely do notice the G305 X SUPERLIGHT’s slightly bulkier design, especially after coming from lighter mice, even if it is only ~10 grams.
Under the hood, online teardowns confirm that Logitech has chosen not to implement its hybrid LIGHTFORCE optical-mechanical switches on the G305 X SUPERLIGHT. Instead, they’ve stuck with standard Omron mechanicals. Whilst the most savant of mouse enthusiasts are bound to scoff at the lack of optical tech at this price point, there’s really nothing bad to say about the performance. They’re crisp, nicely tensioned and feature a deeper ‘click’ that isn’t too loud.
Logitech G HUB, Connectivity & Battery Life
The software experience is pretty stock-standard, where you’ll be using Logitech G HUB to customise and update the G305 X SUPERLIGHT. In the big year that is 2026, it would have been awesome to see Logitech G start transitioning toward web-based software, eliminating the need to download and install applications that constantly run in the background. Unfortunately, they haven’t made that move just yet and I suspect it mightn’t be for another while.
Notably, several advanced adjustments found in Logitech G’s more premium mice – namely lift-off, gaming surface mode and hero sensor calibration features – are missing. These are rather niche settings however, so it’s unlikely to affect your actual day-to-day use.
Logitech G has quoted 130 hours of battery life for the G305 X SUPERLIGHT, which is on the higher side of the gaming mouse market thanks to its 500mAh battery. That’s a good chunk of running time, and you can easily get 3.5 hours of use with only a 2-minute charge via USB-C. Constantly plugging in and switching mice has been a headache with my other mice, so this was a nice change (doesn’t quite live up to the 250 hours from the original G305, though).
Logitech G305 X SUPERLIGHT: Final Verdict
Some things are better left in the past, but I’ve had a blast with Logitech G’s return to a (familiar) form with the G305 X SUPERLIGHT. A little nostalgia from my years of use with the old G305 might have played a small part in shaping my opinion on this one, but the iconic egg shape has still been such a pleasure to use even after going through so many gaming mice over the years.
This being said, at an RRP of A$149.95, the G305 X SUPERLIGHT is not an immediate recommendation for me. If you’re after your first gaming mouse or looking for one that can compete with the best of the best, Logitech G’s PRO X series (or even more so one of its many Chinese clones) will offer far better value, performance and overall bang for buck. The G305 X SUPERLIGHT aims to appeal to enjoyers of the original G305 who maybe aren’t interested in every possible weight-saving measure or every feature; if you’re familiar with the shape and are itching for a reason to upgrade, then the G305 X SUPERLIGHT is a solid pick. It’s lighter, better-performing and packs several features over its predecessor, notably RGB lighting and tri-mode connectivity.
The Logitech G G305 X SUPERLIGHT is available to purchase from most big-box stores for A$149.95. Find more about this product on Logitech G’s official website.
