Storage isn’t usually the most glamorous part of a PC build, but when sequential speeds start pushing towards 15GB/s, things get a little more interesting.
The Samsung 9100 PRO is the company’s flagship PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, with the 2TB model promising sequential read speeds of up to 14,800MB/s and writes up to 13,400MB/s.
Those are impressive numbers on paper, but Lee has been putting the 9100 PRO through its paces for DRN to see what it can actually deliver.
Along with running the usual storage benchmarks, he’s looked at the drive from the perspective of his own workflow — including the kind of large media files and video editing workloads where very fast storage can genuinely be useful.
There’s also the practical side of running a high-performance Gen5 drive to consider, including cooling and whether your system can actually take advantage of what the 9100 PRO has to offer.
