I’ve recently had the opportunity to give the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX gaming mouse a spin. This is a mouse for hardcore, serious gamers. It talks big with its specs, but how’s it feel, both physically and in game, and how does it compare to something like my recently acquired Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse? Well, let’s find out!

Word of warning to our left-handed readers: this mouse is very much designed for a right-hander, so keep that in mind!

Unboxing and setup

One thing I have to give Logitech is they know how to a) make the outside of a package look schmick, and b) make the inside look just as awesome. The box is a slick black with the key features in a slightly gloss black writing that is subtle but cool and makes you focus up on it. Inside, everything is similarly black and just looks ‘cool’ (if I can say that as a 40 year old now).

In the box, besides the mouse and LIGHTSPEED USB-A wireless receiver, you will find a few useful things. There’s a receiver extension adapter for if you have a desk which will result in your mouse being a distance from where you plug in your wireless receiver. There’s also a cleaning cloth, the optional grip tape, your paperwork, and an alternate disc for the bottom of the mouse (they call it a foot, but it’s a round disc) that has extra smooth surface to result in an even smoother glide on your mouse pad. You will find a USB-A to USB-C charge / data cable which I’ll come back to later.

The mouse itself comes with a bunch of specs. It has some onboard memory, uses a HERO 2 sensor, with a 100 – 32,000 DPI resolution and zero smoothing / acceleration / filtering, and an impressive maximum LIGHTSPEED report rate (while wireless, that is) of 4000 Hz (0.25ms). Snap, snap.

Setting up was a breeze. Plug in the USB-A wireless receiver, turn on the mouse, and away you go!

How’s the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX feel in the hand

This mouse is a return to a larger mouse, like my former Razer DeathAdder. I ran DeathAdders for over ten years, so it’s a mouse size that instantly feels comfortable and normal for me.

The Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX feels extremely similar. But, somehow, smoother in the hand. Where the DeathAdder has squared off and slightly angular buttons that almost ‘fall’ off the front, the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX feels more complete in the hand and, while having similar angles at the front (especially to ensure the charge port doesn’t get in the way), it feels rounder and smoother.

Speaking of smoother, unlike the G309 that has a bit of texture to it, this mouse is smooth to the touch. It’s not quite a gloss finish, still appearing to have a matte plastic, but there’s very little texture here. And that’s not a bad thing, just an observation. There are the standard inclusions of grip stickers if that’s your thing, but, pass.

The buttons feel good with a nice tactile response. Similarly, the mouse wheel has a nice tactile sensation with every rotation and in terms of clicking ‘Mouse 3’. The side buttons are a little wider, but also smoother / rounder, compared to the G309, and feel great in game. They’re easy to find and utilise in the heat of battle.

But, in terms of buttons, that is it. There is one missing, but I will return to that.

The heavy burden of this mouse…

While this mouse is a fairly sizeable mouse, especially compared to my the G309, this mouse is LIGHT.

As in, according to my scales, this mouse is only 58 grams.

And it is surprising how noticeable that is. If you’re running the G309 with a battery in it, for example, you’re looking at 26g difference. And that doesn’t sound like much. But when you’re traipsing around the mouse pad for hours, you do feel the difference.

Naturally, being wireless, you also don’t have any drag from the cord slowing you down. While super-light, it is also super-fast as a result.

Battery Life

Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX plugged inThe battery life in the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX is pretty solid, but not perfect. Fully charged, you can get about 90 hours of constant use from the mouse. Then, you can plug in the mouse using a USB-C cable into the front of the mouse. Yes, USB-C. That’s pretty significant these days. The USB-C port is in the front of the mouse, under the buttons, so you can keep using the mouse while plugged in and charging without any issue — it basically reverts to a corded mouse with where the plug is located.

However, the best way to use this mouse is with the Logitech G PowerPlay Wireless Charging System mouse pad. With this, and the charge disc in the bottom of the mouse, you never have to plug in the mouse and can use all day every day without issue.

That said, the difference between the normal disc (which is just plastic) and the charge disc does increase the weight of your mouse… to a massive 62g. Be warned!

Performance in game of the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX

This mouse is sharp.

In terms of movement, it glides around the Logitech G PowerPlay Wireless Charging System smoothly and with ease. The large pads on the base of the mouse ensure that there’s plenty of contact with the pad and will not catch any snags along the way.

Editing photos last week while using it, I was able to pin-point pixels. But browsing the internet and even photo editing isn’t why you buy a mouse like this.

What about in the heat of a game?!

This mouse is super responsive. In a game like DOTA2, you don’t notice too much of a difference. Perhaps I pulled off a few last second blinks or spells, but that’s as much luck as the mouse I dare say. My team mates wouldn’t attribute it to the mouse, and definitely not to skill, but rather my hit and miss ability to pull off a decent play.

In my heyday, it was always first-person shooters that I excelled in (notably in the Battlefield series). So, I feel this is the area I can notice more of a difference in a mouse.

And, in first-person shooters, this mouse performs as you’d expect. It is extremely nice to play with (except one fault, coming up next!).

Snappy, crisp movements to target.

Incredibly responsive button clicks firing off rounds and taking out targets.

My runs in both Helldivers 2 and Ready or Not were great. I somewhat wonder if this is from the specs of the mouse or just the mouse being larger. Compared the Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse, this mouse feels much more like my old Razer DeathAdder, which I gamed with for about a decade before switching to Logitech.

It’s a great feeling mouse while in game… but, what about that fault I mentioned?

Lack of functionality compared to the G309 Gaming Mouse

So, I really have enjoyed the versatility of the Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse in recent times. There are two functions on this mouse that are sorely lacking in the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX. One I can excuse; the other I can’t.

There is no Bluetooth capability with this mouse. It exclusively uses the LIGHTSPEED Wireless dongle. I understand this. It reduces weight, but, also, it guarantees the best performance in terms of responsiveness. I can excuse this.

What I can’t excuse is that one missing button…

This mouse comes with your standard left and right button, scroll wheel (mouse 3) as well as your two side buttons (mouse 4 and 5). This mouse is SORELY lacking the DPI/Sensitivity quick change button.

There are times you need to change your sensitivity on the fly. It might be you’re going from run-and-gun shooting to sniping to operating a tank or helicopter. It might be you’re going from browsing to fine-editing in Photoshop to talking on Facebook. The G309 gives you the option for quick change between Sensitivity presets.

For an elite gaming mouse, I’m a bit surprised by this missing feature. You can set up presets in the Logitech G Hub software… but you have to return there every time you want to switch between said presets. Quite frustrating!

Oh, and, as an aside, no RGB on this mouse, either, other than a single pin-prick power light LED. Keeps it light, though.

Final thoughts on the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX

If you’re a hardcore gamer, this is definitely a mouse you should consider. If you’re a hardcore graphic artist or something that needs precision, this would also be a great mouse to consider. It is comfortable, SUPER responsive, on the Logitech PowerPlay Wireless Charging System it never needs charging, and it is super light and not at all tiring to use for long stints.

This mouse doesn’t come super cheap, though, with a $299 price tag. But if you’re a serious gamer and you want a dedicated mouse for your gaming machine (unlike me, who is currently loving the versatility of a mouse that can connect to different computer systems), this is one you want to check out. It comes in black, white and pink, and is available at JB Hi-Fi and through Amazon (via our affiliate link, if you’d please) among other places!

Many thanks to Logitech for letting me give this a work out!
