So you want to buy the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring.

One thing worth noting up front is that the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring requires a two-step sizing process because its dimensions differ from standard jewellery rings.

  1. First, you purchase the Lynx Smart Ring, and RENPHO sends you a free sizing kit before shipping the actual ring.
  2. Then, after wearing the plastic sizing ring for a full 24 hours (or longer) to account for natural hand fluctuations, you submit your confirmed size online through “My Orders”, and only then is your actual ring prepared and shipped to you.

It’s worth noting that this approach is not unusual for smart rings, as unlike traditional jewellery, these smart rings cannot be resized.

The kit arrives neatly presented in a compact, stylish, and minimal package that feels consistent with RENPHO’s clean, modern branding. Inside, everything is organised clearly, making it easy to understand what’s included and how to use it.

What’s Inside the Sizing Kit

The kit contains a complete set of fixed-size plastic ring sizers, from size 6 to size 13. Each ring is a single solid band that is rigid, smooth, and shaped to match the profile of the real Lynx Smart Ring – right down to the little bumps on the inside of the band created to mimic the actual ring. There’s no adjusting mechanism; instead, you test each of the fixed sizes to determine which one fits your knuckle and finger best.

RENPHO includes clear instructions explaining how to choose the right size and why the full 24-hour wear test is essential.

My 24-Hour Wear Experience

I chose the size I thought would suit best and wore the sizer on the index finger of my dominant hand. It is recommended to wear it on your non-dominant hand, but that didn’t feel right for me.

I’ll be honest: at first I felt a bit silly wearing a chunky black plastic ring. It’s not exactly my signature look, and I half expected someone to ask if I’d joined a secret tech cult. But nope – not a single eyebrow raised. Not at work, not on the bus, not even in the wild.

Overnight

I wore it to bed, and although I was aware of it initially, after a short time I forgot I had it on. It didn’t interfere with sleep or feel restrictive as my hands warmed through the night.

A comfortable fit

During My Workday

I dragged myself through heat, bus, sub-zero office air-con, then heat again because apparently we’re doing that now. Meanwhile, the sizer just chilled (literally, at one point) and didn’t fuss. No swelling-induced death grip, and no “oops it fell off”.

Fit & Comfort

Against all odds, I picked the right size immediately. After a sweaty 15-minute commute where my fingers expanded like self-raising flour, the ring stayed put beautifully. Not too loose, not too death-grip tight – the Goldilocks of wearable sizing. It still slid over my knuckle without needing soap or prayer. If you’re stuck between sizes, RENPHO recommends choosing the smaller one for accuracy. Risky? Maybe. Successful? Apparently.

What Happens Next (according to online information)

To borrow from Beyoncé … if you like (the fit) put a ring on it! Having completed the 24-hour wear test and confirmed the size, the next step is simply submitting that size in the RENPHO app or via the “My Orders” section online. Once that’s done, RENPHO proceeds to ship the actual Lynx Smart Ring in the size you selected. The sizing kit itself doesn’t need to be returned; it’s just a helpful tool to ensure a perfect fit.

The Actual Smart Ring – some thoughts from a wearable fitness technology user

The RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring arrives in a neat little package that includes everything you need to get going: the ring itself, a USB-C charging cable, an egg-shaped charging case (adorably shaped, though sadly not in bedazzled or in pastel pink), and a user manual. The ring is offered in two finishes – Titanium Silver, which I tested, and Carbon Black. In the photos online the Titanium Silver looked sleek and understated, but in person it leaned more towards “minimalist sci-fi gadget” than “accessory whispering effortless femininity.” But more on that later.

The set up

Setting it up is straightforward. You pair the ring via Bluetooth 5.0 with the RENPHO Health App on your phone. The first-time setup involves placing the ring into its charging case and following the prompts. Once it’s paired, the ring stores your data and then syncs whenever you open the app. It doesn’t continuously stream to your phone, which I actually found helpful – fewer notifications trying to yell at me about “readiness scores” before I’ve even had my morning cup of tea.

When it comes to data collection, the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring is ambitious. It tracks heart rate and heart-rate variability, blood oxygen saturation via infrared sensors, stress levels, sleep cycles and sleep quality (right down to how long you spend in each sleep stage), and all your daily activity metrics including steps, distance, calorie burn and exercise sessions such as walking, running and swimming. The sleep tracking even distils everything into a “sleep score,” which is a diplomatic way of telling you whether you slept beautifully or tossed and turned like a caffeinated squirrel.

To show the type of data you want displayed in your app, open the app then click on the filters icon to the right of the screen opposite the word ‘Dashboard’. This will bring up the ‘Card Management’ screen, where you simply click on the blue plus sign to add that item to your dashboard display. Simple.

I like the way the data is presented on the app’s dashboard. It is easy to navigate to find information to support your theory that you did indeed NOT sleep well at all, and that you should move a bit more during the day. *Note: I took screenshots of the dashboard early in the wear process so as not to have incriminating evidence of my inactivity or restless sleep captured forever on DRN.

Battery life

Battery life is one of the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring’s standout strengths. On a full charge the ring is rated for up to 12 days of use, and I actually did get very close to that. I put this down to a blissful mix of one or two very sedentary days – apparently the ring enjoys a break as much as I do – and some slightly more active days to keep it honest. The charging case gives you roughly an extra week of power, so between the ring and the case you could go two to three weeks before needing to recharge everything. A full charge takes only about 1.5 hours, which is wonderfully fast if you’re impatient like me.

Durability

In terms of durability, the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring certainly earns its keep. It’s crafted from titanium alloy and weighs only 4-5 grams, so while it’s sturdy, it’s still light on the finger. It’s waterproof up to 50 metres, meaning you can wash your hands, shower, swim, or get caught in one of Brisbane’s famous summer storms without clutching your hands to your chest in panic. You can comfortably (theoretically) wear it 24/7 while doing all your daily chores and workouts.

The wear experience & a masculine aesthetic

However – and this is where my fashion-loving heart starts to sink – the technical strengths didn’t quite outweigh the physical experience for me. Even though the sizing kit got me the correct fit, I found the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring too chunky. Over the course of the week I became constantly aware of it, which is not what you want from something meant to melt into your daily life. Upon reflection, the problem isn’t the ring’s circumference; it’s the height and overall shape. All the sensors and clever engineering are packed in there, but that means the design lacks the delicacy and subtlety that I, as someone who loves elegant jewellery, found myself craving.

The Titanium Silver finish, while billed as sleek and modern, sat on my hand like I’d accidentally borrowed equipment from a minor superhero. It’s masculine, utilitarian, and a bit too “I’m tracking my biometric readiness for battle” for my everyday style. I love jewellery that’s expressive, feminine, textured, and colourful – or at least pretending it belongs in a jewellery box instead of a tech drawer. The RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring just didn’t get that memo and potentially risks alienating a large proportion of the buying population.

Because it felt more like gear than accessory, and without a more elegant or playful option, the likelihood of me wearing it daily was about as strong as my willpower when someone brings out a cheese platter. Consistency kind of matters when you’re trying to track health trends… who knew?

A design suggestion

Every now and then I do enjoy a chunky, loud statement piece, and honestly, if this ring came in hot fluro pink or an on-trend pattern (perhaps a collab with an artist!) I’d be wearing it with pride and calling it intentional. At least then people would think, “Wow, bold choice,” instead of “Did Julie join the Avengers?”

Tech that’s tops … just not with my outfit

Function: 10/10. Fashion: … Let’s Just Say Not My Vibe

Overall, the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring makes perfect sense if what you want is strong health and activity tracking, durability, and brilliant battery life, and you’re not fussy about aesthetics or the tactile experience of wearing jewellery. It truly is a well-engineered device. But if, like me, you care about style, subtlety and the actual feeling of “just wearing a ring,” the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring may come across as intrusive and a bit too utilitarian.

I’d still encourage you to try the RENPHO Lynx Smart Ring – it’s a clever little gadget and a fun way to track your health. Your experience could be completely different to mine. But for me, even with all its impressive features, it just never felt like me. And if I’m not reaching for it every day, no amount of heart rate data is going to change that.
