Granted, we live here in a very pristine clime on the coast in Southwest Australia: the air is pure and fresh, mixed with wafts of gum trees.

So why am I waxing lyrical about air purifiers?

Well, when everybody starts burning off, the smoke penetrates our every room.
But also, throughout the year, indoor air pollution is still a thing.
Particularly when you live in a city you’ll know air purifiers are a must.

So let me introduce the Ionmax Selah ION360.

Ionmax Selah ION360

This is a very portable air purifier, meaning it can be moved easily from room to room or just dedicated to one permanent spot.

In our case, since we have already the Ionmax ION430 to cater to the big rooms, the Selah has been put to work in my office.

If you could imagine the home office/test bench of a tech reviewer of two decades, that room smells of electronic stuff.
Yep, it actually smells like that.

So, when Andatech released the Selah, I knew it would be a winner.

The Selah purifies the air, trapping nearly 100% of allergens, dust, plus eliminates odours and inactivates viruses and bacteria.
All courtesy of the 3-stage filter, the UVX Shield and the IonX-Shield.

We may think that outdoor pollution is the main problem but often indoor pollution can be much worse.
Think about that new carpet or furniture smell.
Plastics can give off Volatile Organic Compounds, leading to asthma or other respiratory problems.
Plus the fact that we spend most of our time indoors!

I think I have painted the case for air purifiers…

Sorry, I should not have used the word paint.
It’s another source of air pollution when it is freshly applied…

Testing the Selah

This is one of the easiest appliances to set up.

Ready to use as soon as you take it out of the box.

You will take a moment to admire its elegant, matt black shape before you plug it in.

The control panel buttons on the top are clearly labelled: timer settings (2, 4 or 8hrs), UV lamp and Ioniser and the 3 (actually 4) fan speed settings.
Hit the On/Off button and the Selah works its magic.

The difference in air quality may not be apparent immediately, but certainly noticeable after a few hours.

SPECIFICATIONS Explained

For the informed buyer we could just list the specs in a table.
But let’s just highlight a few of them that needs some ‘splaining…

COVERAGE
How many square metres can the Selah comfortably handle?

9sqm or 27sqm? Depends on which standard you use: ANSI or NRCC.
These US and Canadian Associations have vastly different outcomes!
This only matters when you compare different brands.
Just make sure they clearly indicate which standard they give.
Obviously, there are many factors in play here.

For a good explanation here’s what the Ionmax site says.

Long story short: this unit covers bedrooms and office rooms very well.
The box actually states coverage up to 15sqm.

NOISE LEVEL
What noise?
At the lowest bedroom setting you can barely hear it at 30dB.
High setting is almost double at 58dB (very noticeable) and then there is Turbo, a notch higher still.

Run it at high settings initially and, when you need to work or sleep in that room, the lowest setting keeps the air fresh and clean.

FILTER LIFE
The Selah will indicate when the filter cartridge needs to be replaced.
Generally, after 6 months of continual running.
You can vacuum the filter every month to extend its useful life.

POWER USE
The low setting uses just 14W, medium about 18 and high 24W.
Turbo makes it jump up to 51W. Standby is 0.7W

OTHER SPECS

LET’S CLEAR THE AIR and tell you what I really think…

Getting a good air purifier is a no-brainer.
We have been using one for many years and notice the difference.

Andatech knows how to design and build great air purifiers and, as an Aussie company, that makes me proud.

I can highly recommend the Selah ION360 for your office or bedroom.

For bigger spaces have a look at the Ionmax website for its bigger siblings.

Price is a reasonable AUD249 with the HEPA 3-in-1 filters coming in at $45.
Currently there’s a 10% off your first order promotion.

DRN would like to thank Andatech for giving us the opportunity to test the Ionmax Selah.
