Overall the WD internal SSD was a much need addition to my gaming setup. The 1TB capacity of the WD Black SSD offers ample space for storing a generous library of games, but if you’re anything like me and have an eclectic range of gaming tastes, you’re likely to find yourself needing another unit sooner rather than later. As games continue to grow larger and larger in size (particularly with console versions that don’t take physical disks), one can only hope that companies like WD continue to develop internal SDD’s that continue to keep up with gaming storage demands.

Installation was as straight forward as it gets. Included was an installation guide however it was as simple as plug and play. Transfer of information to the internal SDD was fast and seamless, and gaming performance on the SSD was also nothing to complain about.

The WD Black SSD delivers surprisingly fast performance that is perfectly suited for an inpatient gamer like myself. With read and write speeds that exceed any other hard drive I’ve used to date, load times are no longer an issue. It’s also incredibly responsive when it comes to game installations and updates, saving me precious time.

The build of the SSD was probably the thing that stood out to me the most. It had a weight to it that made it feel premium, with a matte black finish on the case that matched the aesthetic of my Xbox Series X. It is small enough to remain portable, but sturdy enough to not feel as if it may break if dropped or accidentally stood on.

On average, the cost of if the WB Black Internal SSD for Xbox series X/S will set you back roughly $290 but you may be able to find it a little cheaper if you do some digging. Never-the-less, the cost of the unit is by no means “cheap” but could also be worse.

All in all, the WD Black Internal SSD for Xbox Series X/S is a fantastic addition to my gaming setup. Its lightning-fast performance, ease of installation, and solid build quality make it an excellent investment for gamers. Depending on your library of games, you may need additional storage units to hold all your digital copies but it’s a small trade-off for the spend and responsiveness this SSD provides.

It is available from Amazon and JB Hi-Fi.

DRN would like to thank WD_BLACK for providing the review unit.
