As a clearly divided household between Apple and Android devices, our household has two bested opinions on what the answer is to the meaning of life. I can clearly confirm it is not 42, as that has been done and was not all that exciting.
The Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 clearly defines the simplicity of charging an Apple Device. All newer Apple iPhones, iWatch and iPods come with inbuilt NFC (Near Field Charging technology), as I would expect from any official MagSafe technology. Place your iPhone firmly onto the charge pad to begin the charge process.
In testing the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 with our three newer model Android phones, it would appear only one of our phones actually worked well with NFc (Oppo Reno Z) providing I removed the case cover. Our other two family members’ iPhones seemed very much at home (iPhone SE-2 and iPhone 14 Pro ) even with the case attached. Charging was seamless, thus proving the importance of the Apple Technologies biggest draw cards: Compatibility and Simplicity at its simplest. (Nb. I am still and always will be an Android phone fan)..
Initial Thoughts & Processions
To be honest, I am hard pressed in finding anything specifically wrong with such a well thought out device. It is simple and elegant in its design and goes together very easily out of the box.
Rarely is anything so ‘Plug and Play’, but the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 is an openly simplistic perfection of technology. You can lay your watch onto the charge pad and let it do the work, or, pop up the magnetic stand to use nightstand mode. This very simple, yet appreciated double use of technology is adjustable to any size apple watch with a simple dial.
The NFC is very good, reaching past what I would expect from an NFC charging unit. Keep in mind the full 15 watts maximum output by the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 is shared between all devices on the pad. So whilst 15w fast charging is good, it does increase the charge time if your earbuds are flat and your watch is run down. Your phone is therefore going to take longer to charge with multiple devices on the charging platform simultaneously.
With that said, I find the 15w adequate to charge all devices fairly quickly, making this a good charge platform for those on the go. It’s ideal for those that travel due to its small form factor and being under 650g with the AU socket adapter (Don’t forget your universal power adapter too).
If you are thinking about NFC and realise that’s how I pay for things, you would be correct. The very same technology to transfer payment details as a communication is also used to transfer electricity wirelessly (NFC) into your Apple device. It’s not connected to the web, so your technology can charge safely.
Nice to Have’s
The Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 supports all apple devices from iPhone 8 and up (Check out the compatibility table).
- Seamless and simple experience – Just plug into a 240v wall socket, place your device or devices to charge and you are up and running.
- Adjustable watch stand – Simply pop up and adjust to the desired height and angle to suit you.
- Fast Charging – Admittedly this unit did charge the iPhone SE-2 faster (approximately 20 minutes) from 5%. This was much to the distress of our 16-year-old, who did not ever let it get that low in charge for fear of missing out on a life critical chat…
Issues
I’m stumped to find anything wrong with this device. It is sturdy and relatively unbreakable. But the problem I did find, was in fact NOT with this device. I dug a little deeper into the specifications and a limitation to the devices that you can use with it surfaced.
- Check your device capabilities. If you like to hold onto your current device rather than following trend on new ones, some older devices do not support simultaneous charging ‘seamlessly’.
- Fast Charging is only available to some more modern devices. Others will charge at a normal defined rate by the manufacturer.
To reiterate: This is not a fault of Belkin; its products are well thought out and function without issue.
Conclusion
If you want something simple that just Works, Belkin have your answer with the Belkin Boost Charge Pro series of charge platforms. The market is saturated with chargers, many of which are poorly made and barely charge one device, let alone multiple. Belkin have proven their chops yet again.
As a rural Queenslander that is in good marriage with technology (and the love of my life, my wife), I can safely state that this was and will always be a safe choice for charging in our household. Between the assorted household pets, it has remained safely ensconced on the nightstand and provides a safe and secure method of charging our assorted technology.
The Belkin BoostCharge 3-in-1 Wireless Charger for Apple Devices has a RRP of $199.95, and is available in Black or White. There is some savings to be have on Amazon at time of publish, just in time for EoFY.
