I had to start this review by first locating a bottle that still uses a cork. They are becoming rare enough that finding one felt like a scavenger hunt. While I’m usually more at home with a cold beer or a whiskey sour, I do enjoy the occasional grape juice for grown ups, and that’s exactly why this gadget has earned a proper place amongst the rest of my bar tools.

Unboxing the Marchpower Set: More Than Just an Electric Corkscrew

When the Marchpower Electric Wine Bottle Opener Set arrived, the packaging felt no-frills which is a good sign. This isn’t a gimmicky gadget pretending to be something fancy. Inside was the opener itself, a foil cutter, a wine pourer/aerator and a bottle stopper. I might not reach for the vacuum stopper often (especially if the sisters are catching up), but having the extras bundled in made the set feel like a proper bar kit rather than a one-trick tool.

Charging the device is via a USB-C port which sits on top, easy to access. It displays a small red light signal when it’s charging and a green when complete. Pop 100 bottles on one full charge. For someone who doesn’t use wine openers daily, small conveniences like that matter. For those of you that do, I’m sure you’ll appreciate that too.

When I tested it, the foil cutter cut cleanly with minimal effort, which set the tone for the whole experience. The opener itself is ergonomic. It’s light, smooth and well-balanced, not clunky or awkward. Press the top button and the opener pulls the cork out of the bottle for you. No jerkiness and no cork bits dropping into the wine. 7 seconds is all it takes. A tap of the side button pops the cork out of the device, which feels strangely satisfying. I am definitely not a wine connoisseur and I would not pretend I can pick flavour notes beyond red or white, but even I noticed that the wine tasted a little smoother when poured through the aerator. My sister called it “tasting the technology” which was definitely said tongue in cheek, but she was not wrong.

Why This Electric Opener is a Must-Have for Accessibility and Convenience

What stands out most for me is how little effort it requires. For wine lovers who have strength or dexterity challenges, or anyone whose hands don’t always cooperate, electric wine openers show their real value. Manual corkscrews often demand wrist torque, proper grip and a bit of force. Many people struggle with that or avoid opening wine bottles altogether when their hands hurt or feel weak. Electric models like this remove that barrier.

Even for those without mobility issues, the convenience can’t be overlooked. For a quick dinner with friends, a casual glass after work, or a relaxed weekend — this opener makes the whole process smooth, quick and hassle-free.

Compared with manual corkscrews or lever-style openers, the errors often associated with human application, like inserting the screw at an angle, over-twisting, or pulling too hard and risking cork breakage, are much less likely with this opener. That reliability means fewer embarrassing dinner party mishaps and more time for what really matters: good company, good drinks, maybe wings on the table (wings and wine go together, don’t they?) and the dog curled up under the chair waiting for scraps.

Convenience vs. Ceremony: The Trade-Offs of Going Electric

Of course, using an electric opener comes with trade-offs. It lacks some of the ritual and tactile satisfaction of a manual corkscrew. For some, the twist-and-pull, the little “pop,” and the manual effort are part of the enjoyment. Electric openers lean toward convenience over ceremony.

If you only open a bottle once in a blue moon, or you don’t care about level of effort, a manual corkscrew can still do the job. But if you open wine occasionally and value smooth, effortless uncorking, the Marchpower’s pros outweigh the cons.

My Verdict: The Marchpower Set Earns a Permanent Spot in the Bar

For my kitchen setup the Marchpower Electric Wine Bottle Opener Set is a useful, reliable addition. It doesn’t replace all traditional corkscrews or the ritual of wine opening, but it’s a practical, inclusive, and well-designed tool that genuinely earns a permanent spot among my bar gadgets.

If you care about simplicity, consistency, ease of use, and accessibility or if you or someone you know struggles with manual corkscrews, this opener isn’t a luxury. It’s a helpful, low-fuss upgrade that makes opening wine bottles something you don’t have to think twice about.

Thank you to Marchpower for the perfect reason to open a bottle of wine. Thanks also to my sister who happily joined in with no arm twisting needed. You can buy the Marchpower Electric Wine Bottle Opener Set on Amazon Australia for just $19.99 at time of publish, RRP $33.99.
