I was super pumped to test and review the Epson EpiqVision EF-22 Series home projector. It is a compact, portable home projector designed to deliver a high-quality viewing experience with a range of advanced features I was keen to experience. I’ll split my review in two parts for your reading pleasure – the tech stuff and the user experience. And of course I’ll lace the review with witty puns and wholesome stories.
But let’s just start with this … this projector sure knows how to focus on the big picture!
The Epson EF-22 home projector. All set up and ready to roll!
Throw some light on the subject (stuff you should know)
Display and Performance
- Resolution: Full HD (1080p), sharp and detailed visuals.
- Brightness: 1,000 lumens, suitable for darker environments; eco-mode reduces output to 500 lumens. Having said that, I tested the projector in my home during the day (ambient lighting) and at night, inside during a function for work (under function room lighting) and was very happy with the colour and brightness of the images projected.
- Contrast Ratio: An impressive 5,000,000:1 providing vibrant colours.
- Aspect Ratio: Native 16:9, ideal for movies and TV shows.
Projection Capabilities
- Screen Size: Adjustable between 30″ and 150″.
- Throw Distance: Achieves a 60″ image at just 1.33 meters.
- Lens Adjustments: Features auto-focus, keystone correction, and screen-fit technologies for effortless setup.
Story time …
When I first started teaching back in the nineteen hundreds I was using an overhead projector in my English classroom with my Year 8 class. I thought I was doing a great job adjusting the focus so that the information could be seen clearly. It wasn’t until the young people started roasting my “focusing abilities” that I realised I needed corrective spectacles. Sigh.
So let’s just take a moment here to say how awesome this auto-focus capability is. I didn’t need to do anything to focus the images being projected – how good is that! The EF-22 home projector does the hard work for you. There was no need for me to find the focus functionality dials or buttons, and waste time making sure the image was crisp and clear. And above all, I avoided my family making fun of my eyesight! Win-win I’d say!
Connectivity and Portability
- Input Options: 1 x HDMI (ARC) 1 x USB type A, USB storage, camera, mic, HID 1 x USB type B.
- Smart Features: Comes with Google TV built-in, offering access to streaming apps, Chromecast functionality, and Google Assistant for voice control.
- Portability: Compact design (236 x 191 x 193 mm, approx. 3 kg) with an integrated adjustable stand.
Audio and Mounting
- Audio: Built-in stereo speakers (5W x 2) with a passive radiator for enhanced sound quality. Dolby Audio support adds clarity to the audio experience. In short, when listening to The Killers and watching the YouTube music video clips, the sound output was awesome!
- Mounting: Can be placed on a flat surface and adjusted to project on walls, ceilings, or floors.
Smart and Practical Features
- Keystone Correction: Automatically adjusts for trapezoidal distortion. I didn’t know about keystone correction prior to testing this projector. *Keystone correction is a feature on projectors that adjusts the image to be rectangular when the projector is not centred directly in front of the screen. So, now you know too! #lifelonglearning
- Longevity: The EF-22 projector uses a laser light source rated for up to 10 years of daily use in eco-mode (or 5 hours/day if you’re immersed in a ‘Lord of the Rings’ or ‘Twilight’ movie marathon. I’m not judging your taste in movies *insertwinkyface)
- Smart Design: Integrated Google TV enables access to over 400,000 movies and TV shows.
I don’t throw shade, I throw slides! (a user experience)
I let the boss know I’d be happy to test and review the EF-22 if it got here in time for me to test it at a work function. It arrived. I happily tested it.
I set the projector up at home first to make sure everything went smoothly. The set up was so very simple and stress free. The only thing I needed to do was go hunting for a HDMI cable, but once I located one and dusted it off, we were good to go. Syncing the remote with the projector was very speedy and straightforward. Connecting the EF-22 home projector to the wifi was quick, and logging in to my Google account to access Google TV and other apps was child’s play!
Using the projector at the Yr 6 graduation function was simple and straightforward also. In both cases there was ambient and artificial lighting in the spaces where the images were being projected. Despite this, the images were clear. I can only imagine in a ‘cinema dark’ environment that the images would look amazing.
Note: The colour in the images following is washed out due to using my phone camera. The images IRL thrown by the projector are vibrant and crisp.

Casting image on to the wall at home in ambient daylight, the Epson EF-22 still throws a solid image.

The colours have diluted due to taking photos with my phone camera, but IRL colours projected are gorgeous.

Life without a projector would be so dim!
Due to the quick, simple set up and user process, I had plenty of time to come up with some hilarious ‘projector puns’ to wrap up my review for you!
The Epson EF-22 home projector truly lights up your entertainment experience! It’s a bright idea for movie nights, offering dazzling picture quality that makes every scene popcorn-worthy. With its compact design, setting it up is a projection of perfection—no headaches, just plug and play. The colours are so vivid, you’ll feel like you’ve been cast right into the action, and the clarity will have you focused on the screen, not the tech. Its portability is the highlight reel of convenience, letting you screen dreams anywhere, from your living room to a backyard under the stars. Whether you’re hosting a binge-watching marathon or a gaming session that’s projected to win, the EF-22 delivers a screen-tacular performance every time. In short, this projector is the reel deal!
Thanks to Epson for the opportunity to review such a beautiful piece of tech.
