If you’re looking to buy budget friendly wireless earbuds that deliver a solid sound experience, the Tozo Tonal Fits earbuds are a safe bet.
Let’s start with the design.
Sleek and minimalist, the design is similar to another well known brand on the market. You can choose from black, blue, green or red – you won’t find white in the suite of colours. The charging case is equally compact, making it easy to slip into your pocket or bag for on-the-go convenience. It has an LED display that shows what percentage charge the case is at, as well as showing the charge for each earbud. Included with the earbuds and case is a USB C charging cable and user manual. The Tozo Tonal Fits are also wireless charging capable.
The customisation & audio performance.
You can customise the user interface, the EQ settings and access firmware updates via the Tozo app. You need to have the earbuds out of their charging case for the app to recognise the individual buds when you’re customising settings. I spent a bit of time playing around with the settings for the earbuds, but in the end went back to the default settings. To my ears they sounded the best.
The sound that the Tozo Tonal Fits generates is solid. I tested the earbuds using Spotify with classical music, popular music and musical soundtracks. I am in no way an audiophile, but I do consume a great deal of music on a regular basis. I can safely say I was happy with the balance of sound from both buds and the range between low and high tones on the tracks I listened to was good. What detracted from the listening experience for me was the feel.
The feel.
The earbuds are sleek, lightweight and have no tactile features that felt uncomfortable. However, I am used to earbuds that sit firmly in-ear and are fitted with ear tips. The Tozo Tonal Fits are half-in-ear earbuds and they just felt too loose for me. I kept touching them to make sure they weren’t going to fall out. Every time I did that I activated that capacitive touch buttons. This became frustrating. If you have used half-in-ear earbuds previously and like the fit and feel of them, then this won’t be a problem for you.
The connectivity and functionality.
Connect the Tozo Tonal Fit earbuds via Bluetooth in the settings on your device, or via the Tozo app. This was very simple and took me less than a minute to do.
However, the capacitive touch buttons (smart touch controls) were another story. This function is very sensitive. I wear a cap when I am out walking. Every time I adjusted my cap, my hand would brush the earbuds changing the volume suddenly or unintentionally switching tracks.
The same would happen when I checked to see that the earbuds were still sitting in my ears securely. Not being fully familiar with the smart touch control functions, it was frustrating that I had to muck around to get back to the track I was enjoying or to restore the volume level I find comfortable.
Lastly, and this could be a product of my frustration with the smart touch controls, the ability to answer calls was touch and go *no pun intended. It took me a few tries to be able to easily tap the earbuds to answer an incoming call. I fully accept that this is a user issue, not an issue with the call quality.
The battery life.
I managed to get almost 9 hours of playtime on a single charge. When continuing to put them in the charging case after each use I got approximately 38 hours of play time before needing to recharge the case and earbuds together. This battery life is impressive. Again, the LED battery display is convenient for telling me how much life I have left in my earbuds.
Final thoughts.
The Tozo Tonal Fits earbuds are a great, budget friendly choice. If you are after earbuds that have solid sound, look nice, and have very decent play/run time capacity, you will certainly get your money’s worth.
You can buy from Tozo directly with a RRP of $57.71 or from Amazon Amazon AU where there is a limited time deal at time of publishing for between $43.99 to $45.89 depending which colourway you choose.
With thanks to Tozo for the opportunity to test these earbuds.
