Before Apple decided to omit them from their phone packages, I never really gave wall chargers much thought.

Apple even had the audacity to suggest we don’t need new wall chargers because we already have plenty! Of course, the reality is that if we even know where our old wall chargers are, they’re likely to be old and slow.

Enter Anker’s Charger (70W, 3 port).

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Like its Applesque naming suggests, The Anker Charger (70W, 3 port) is neatly packaged with the charger wrapped in soft protective paper, giving off familiar Apple vibes.

Upon removing the charger, you instantly feel its weight. At 141g, this charger is heaver than it looks. It’s 4cm length and 4.3cm width are about the size of an Australian power point socket and when plugged in the depth is a little over 6cm.

In hand it feels velvety and while it’s not something we would normally look for in a wall charger, it does have a nice premium feeling in hand.

Three ports are vertically aligned on the front face with a small reminder that it can deliver *70W max*. Beyond an Anker logo adorning one side, the charger is otherwise plain white all around.

USAGE

We used the charger to charge our Late 2023 14″ Macbook Pro and while it charged slightly slower than the native 96W charger, it charged quickly enough for us to barely notice a difference. Our now ancient iPhone 13 mini also charged as quickly as we’d ever seen. While we didn’t do any scientific power tests, the charger certainly seemed to do what it said on the tin, charging whatever equipment we had at hand in quick time.

Under full load, the charger got a little warm but nothing outside of what we would consider normal for a wall charger, even after hours of charging random equipment.

Important to note is that the Anker Charger (70W, 3 port) is capable of delivering *a maximum of 70W*. This can be achieved via a single one of its USB-C ports delivering the full 70W or shared via all three ports, ie: 25W+25W+25W.

While the plug was quite heavy (and a little long), we had no issues of it drooping or otherwise fitting poorly on standard Australian power points.

CONCLUSION

The Anker Charger (70W, 3 Port) does exactly what it says on the tin, charging items safely and quickly up to 70W via its three charging ports.

It isn’t the cheapest charger going around, but it has three USB-C ports, which can charge both a single port or all three at a maximum of 70W.

The Anker Charger (70W, 3 Port) is available online exclusively from Apple for a retail price of $119.95AUD.
