YUNZII C98 Cake Meow Wireless Mechanical Keyboard Review: The Cutest Keyboard You’ll Actually Want to Type On

Warning: If you’re trying to maintain any semblance of professionalism at work, this keyboard is so fun – so whimsical – so very pink, its probably going to ruin it.

There are keyboards, and then there are keyboards that become the unofficial star of the office before you’ve even logged in for the day.

That was exactly what happened with the YUNZII C98 Cake Meow Wireless Mechanical Keyboard.

I’d set it up on my desk before everyone arrived on a Monday morning. By the time the office started filling up, people weren’t asking how my weekend was. They were asking, “What on earth is THAT?”

Within minutes I had colleagues gathered around my desk, pressing keys, commenting on the pastel colours, laughing over the tiny cat details and generally behaving like we’d all forgotten we were supposed to be adults. More than one person admitted they suddenly wanted a mechanical cat/cake keyboard, despite never having given keyboards a second thought before.

It’s difficult not to smile when you look at it.

First Impressions: A Keyboard That Makes You Smile

Even before you open it, YUNZII has committed wholeheartedly to the theme.

The box is ridiculously cute.

I almost felt guilty opening it because the packaging is so well designed. Bright pastel colours, playful illustrations and little cat details immediately told me this isn’t going to be another boring black office keyboard.

Then I found something that genuinely made me laugh.

It comes with stickers.

Not one token sticker shoved in as an afterthought either. Proper themed stickers that perfectly match the Cake Meow aesthetic. It’s a tiny inclusion, but it instantly made the whole unboxing feel more like opening a gift than buying another piece of tech.

Everything is neatly packaged and feels absolutely premium. The cutest keyboard I’ve ever used.  Photos don’t really prepare you for just how charming this keyboard is in person.

The colour palette looks like someone combined a bakery display with a kitten café. I have the pink one (of course!) but you can grab it in beige, choco, purple, or blue.

The MOA profile (the shape and height of the keycaps) dye-sub (a heat-printing method that melts ink directly into the plastic) PBT keycaps feature soft pastel colours that resemble little slices of cake, while the silicone side panels look like piped frosting. Even the small kitty logo manages to make you grin every time you glance down.

Then there are the details.

The non-slip feet underneath aren’t ordinary rubber feet.

They’re tiny kitten paws.

Actual little removable paw pads. Take them out and you lower the profile of the keyboard. Pop the paws back in, and you’ve lifted the keyboard.

And then I discovered inside one of those paws is a hiding place for a 2.4GHz wireless USB dongle! Squeeeeeee!!!!!

I don’t know whose idea that was, but they deserve a pay rise.

It’s completely unnecessary.

It’s completely adorable.

I absolutely love it.

Cute Outside, Serious Mechanical Keyboard Performance

It’s very easy to assume this keyboard is all style and no substance. It isn’t.

Underneath the dessert-themed exterior is a genuinely impressive mechanical keyboard.

The C98 uses a gasket-mounted structure with several layers of silicone dampening that create an incredibly soft typing experience. Rather than the harsh bottoming out you sometimes get with cheaper mechanical keyboards, every key press feels slightly cushioned.

Then there’s the sound.

Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts spend hundreds of dollars chasing the mythical “thock.”

The Cake Meow gets remarkably close straight out of the box.

Every key press produces a smooth, creamy, satisfying sound without becoming overly loud or distracting. The ‘factory-lubed’ Candy Linear switches feel incredibly smooth and consistent whether you’re typing documents all day or gaming after work.

After several hours of typing, my fingers felt far less fatigued than they normally do on a standard office keyboard.

The layout hits a sweet spot. The 98-key layout turned out to be one of my favourite features. You keep the dedicated number pad, which is essential if you regularly work with spreadsheets or financial data, but the overall footprint stays much more compact than a full-sized keyboard. Nothing feels cramped. Nothing feels like it’s missing. It simply uses desk space more efficiently.

Tri-Mode Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wireless and USB-C

The Cake Meow offers tri-mode connectivity, making it incredibly flexible.

You can connect using:

Switching between devices is straightforward, making it easy to jump from a desktop computer to a laptop or tablet. The hidden USB receiver also means you’re far less likely to lose the dongle between uses. Provided you remember which kitten paw is hiding it.

Huge 10,000mAh Battery Keeps Going and Going

The specification that surprised me most wasn’t the switches or the RGB lighting. It was the battery. The built-in 10,000mAh battery is – from what I understand of keyboard batteries – absolutely massive. Even with the RGB lighting switched on, it keeps going for an impressively long time before needing to be charged. For most users, charging becomes an occasional task rather than something you’re constantly thinking about.

Tasteful RGB Lighting That Complements the Design

Some RGB lighting can look like it belongs inside a nightclub. This feels more playful than flashy. The 360-degree lighting glows around the keyboard rather than screaming for attention, and the pastel colour scheme works beautifully with the illumination.
It complements the keyboard rather than overpowering it.

Hot-Swappable Switches for Easy Customisation

Good news. The C98 is hot-swappable. That means you can remove the factory switches and replace them with any compatible 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches without touching a soldering iron. For keyboard enthusiasts, that’s a huge plus. For newcomers, it also means your keyboard can evolve over time as your preferences change.

Any Downsides?

Very little.

The keyboard is heavier than you might expect.

Personally, I don’t see that as a negative because it stays planted firmly on the desk, but if you’re constantly carrying your keyboard between locations, you’ll notice the weight.
The other downside is that it doesn’t come with a matching mouse. As soon as I submit this review I am off to source a mouse fit to be seen alongside this gorgeous cakey keyboard!

Final Verdict: Cute, Capable and Surprisingly Premium

I genuinely didn’t expect a keyboard this cute to also be this good. Usually products lean heavily towards appearance or performance. The YUNZII C98 Cake Meow somehow manages both. It’s fun without feeling gimmicky. It’s adorable without compromising build quality. And beneath all the frosting, kittens and pastel colours sits a seriously capable mechanical keyboard with excellent switches, an incredibly satisfying typing feel, fantastic wireless performance and one of the biggest batteries I’ve ever experienced in a keyboard.

It also sparked more conversations in the office than any other piece of technology I’ve brought in. Several colleagues wandered over “just to have a look.” Most stayed long enough to press every key. A couple started browsing where they could buy one before lunch.

That’s probably the best endorsement I can give.

The YUNZII C98 Cake Meow doesn’t just make typing more enjoyable.

It makes people smile.
