TEST FLIGHT

Live from a plane somewhere over the middle of Australia, I’m happily oblivious to my fellow passengers and crew as I write this review.  Yes, I really booked an international flight just to try out the AirFly Pro…*coughs dramatically.  Thank you for your patience TwelveSouth.

This is a budget airline flight to Phuket and the experience has so far managed to hit most of my expectations. One more incident and I’ll be screaming out BINGO! because that card is filling rapidly. And I’m pretty sure my fellow passengers wouldn’t bat an eyelid either as they settle in for the long haul.

So far we’ve experienced:

  • Non-working paid entertainment programs – the whole reason for my flight *more ironic coughing
  • Frantic bolts from various patrons to the tiny bathroom
  • A fight between one individual and his spouse in the check in area which continues on the plane  (I’ll keep you updated on that one)
  • And the usual run-off-their-feet flight attendants with barely time to sit down. Shout out to the crew!

ARM DOORS AND CROSS CHECK

Whew, the entertainment is working (I swapped seats), so I can finally put the AirFly Pro to the test.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

I’ve always loved TwelveSouth packaging. The cleanly styled aesthetic instantly appeals and the AirFly Pro packaging is no different.

Inside you’ll find:

  • AirFly Pro – 15.6g and 57 x 25.5 x 11mm
  • USB-C to USB-A Charging cable
  • Travel pouch
  • Keyring Storage
  • Owner’s Guide
    • Also available in a range of languages online.

SET UP

This is so incredibly simple even Darren from Bondi Junction sitting two rows behind me arguing with his missus could do it (if they stopped bickering for five minutes).

Following the set up card, I put my headset into pairing mode and pressed the little white pairing button on the AirFly Pro.  The lights flickers on the AirFly Pro a couple of time and stopped.  I plugged the AirFly Pro plug in the head phone jack on my screen. Next the AirFly Pro plugged into the accompanying dongle. And voila! No more Darren!

I almost fell over, except I was sitting down.  That was it? Instant sound!   WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?!!

MAGIC PARTS

The AirFly Pro indeed is magical.  For such a small unit it has some pretty impressive stats.

  • International Airline Adapter specifically matched to the shape and finish of AirFly Pro, plus added compatibility with various aircraft types;
  • 25+ hours of battery life w/ USB-C Charging
  • Pair two Air Pods or Wireless Headphones simultaneously through the Headphone Out including air travel, gym and gaming.
  • Adjusting volume levels is also easy and a simple two taps on the dongle can mute the sound if required.
  • And it meets the EU Declaration of Conformity standards.

AUX IN

Connect like never before on your old car stereo, non-Bluetooth speakers, gym gear or in your boat – if there’s an AUX IN plug, you’re set to go. Tried it on my treadmill and yes, 100% works as expected.

BLUETOOTH

Compatible with all Bluetooth wireless headphones, if you can connect to your phone, you can definitely connect to the AirFly Pro. Brand doesn’t matter – TwelveSouth does not discriminate!  It’s also very handy as two people can connect simultaneously and use the AirFly Pro splitting feature to watch their favourite movie, listen to music or podcasts together.

IMPRESSIONS

The AirFly Pro is small but mighty.  The instructions are easy, it is very simple to pair and there’s no downside. It works immediately out of the box and across a broad range of both modern and ageing devices.

The AirFly Pro has made this international flight, and those to come, much more pleasant. No longer do I need to bring along a cabled headset or, heaven forbid, use the provided audio option. Instead I can utilise my comfortable noise cancelling headphones and maximise my listening experience.

As for Darren and his partner, their War of The Roses drama continued for nine looooong hours and spanned at least six countries. But I couldn’t hear them because my AirFly Pros kept my ears happy and blocked out the drama llamas behind me! Winning.

OPTIONS

What I love about TwelveSouth is their ability to provide a broad range of products to suit all budgets and needs.  TwelveSouth also have a base model AirFly as well as the AirFly Duo.   Handy for the car, the house or even to keep the children occupied, they’re so affordable you can justify having two or three in your tech kit just in case. Check out the link in Highly Recommended for further information.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The AirFly Pro is a simple yet highly practical device which I simply could not do without on this long haul flight. Easy to set up, impressive battery power and the ability to go anywhere in the handy pouch, the AirFly Pro is the perfect travel companion.

Retailing at a very affordable $109.95 through TwelveSouth and all good tech retailers, you’ll be very pleased with your purchase. There’s a variety of pricing online, so you may snag yourself a bargain including from Amazon who has a limited time deal at time of publish for AUD$75.00.

Thank you Twelve South for the opportunity to review the AirFly Pro.
